Has anyone else had access to your checking account? Anyone with your account number can call some places and originate debits to your account over the phone. Your bank cannot possibly verify every transaction that comes trhough. You should be commended for watching your account.

Your bank will probably ask you to sign an affidavit stating that you did not authorize the transactions. If your bank is worth its salt, they will not hold you responsible for overdraft fees and will return those transactions after receiving the affidavits. Then, it will be up to USA Credits to get their money from the rightful person.

The link I'm posting below may help you. It appears you're not the only one in this boat. Regardless, GUARD YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER!!!

Call your bank IMMEDIATELY and tell them you need an investigation started on unauthorized charges to your account. They will put you in contact with their Claims Department, where you will need to tell them which charges you believe are not yours. They will give you a case number. They may want you to contact the companies first on your own to try to resolve the unauthorized charges and they will give you the proper contact numbers to do so, then you call back the bank with your case number and the results of your dealings with the companies. Most larger banks, such as Bank of America, will issue you a temporary credit on your account for the amount of purchases under investigation. They will then inquire with what is called a Retrieval Request to the companies the charges came from, and ask for proof from these companies that you authorized these charges. If they cannot provide proof, the charges will go into a Chargeback status (do not confuse this term with Charge-Off) and the monies will be taken back from the companies and will show up as a permanent credit on your account. If you have not had a problem with bounced checks or overdrafts in the past, the bank will likely also refund your overdraft fees if the charges were deemed illigitimate.

You did the right thing by calling the bank. Since the bank is closed on the weekend, there's not much you can do. The bank can look into the amounts and who was paid, but then you may have to do some footwork and find out from the companies what the charges were for. If there was fraudulent activity, you may need to be the one to prove it to the bank. They may be able to place a hold on your account until it is straightened out.

Sorry you're in this mess. I'm sure it will all get straightened out, it will just take time and energy.

This is a problem that is becoming more common. Contact the bank and let them know there has been fraud on your account. They may be able to reverse some of these fake charges. Contact the police or state attourney general about it. Talk with the bank you will probably need a new account since someone has stolen your information.

I am sorry this has happened to you. I know it is aggrevating. I don't know the policy of your bank. When our debit card was stolen our bank (Bank One) refunded the over draft fees as soon as they got a Police Report. It also is possible someone goofed up with the account numbers. Our credit union showed that our car had been payed off, all except $600.00 or so. Supposedly someone had sent in a check of $5300.00 and gave our account number and said it was to pay off the car. We argued with them and told them we didn't even know anyone by the senders name. We kept sending in our payments and 4 months later that amount ($5300) was added back to our balance. I hope you get it fixed easily. Good luck!
