Some gay men are more effeminate than others. But I had a friend in highschool who seemed just as masculine as any other straight men I know. I ended up being one of the first people he told and I was completely taken off guard. So yes, it is just a stereotype, just the same as not all lesbians are ultra masculine and not all muslims are terrorists. It's not a good way of thinking... it's kind of like placing people belonging to a certain group in a box.
