I'v been in Britain awhile and still can't relate comfortably. Can't recognize sarcasm for instance. I think they find me too bold and forward with an 'inappropriate' sense of humour. I'm getting to thinking it's best not to say anything at all. What are the top 'differences' you've noticed between Westerners and the British?

Westerners tell everything about themselves...British are more reserved and don't tell strangers their whole life story the first time they meet

Don't try to fit in, the English only seem conformist. Take another look at their popular humour, it is bizarre. They love and relish their eccentrics. If you try to be English they regard you as a wannabe and give no respect. If you are Western as opposed to western then dress it, flaunt it, not to run them down but just because you are who you are, and unapologetic about it. Do not talk much about being a world power, they have been there and done that and pretencions on those lines are regarded as somehow uncultured. You will never Be a Brit, so enjoy being there and have fun, if you are a Westerner get out your stetson and stock saddle when going riding.

The general sense of humor over there is more intellectual and dry. Whereas in the states it's much more blunt. You have another hurdle to overcome as well. Even though we are allies, We "yanks" are still not very popular amongst the general population. I'd suggest staying quiet and observing those around you. You'll pick up on the mannerisms after a while.

british humour,I have found, is the best including sarcasm but not if it is aimed at you lol. i thought we brits where westerners or did you mean a wild Westerner,, in that case get of yer horse and throw away the stetson.. lol

They say that humour is a poor traveller.
I find Asian humour very childish and quite honestly, not very funny. I love Irish (Irish myself), Jewish, Cockney and Northern humour best. I remember a German who could speak very good English telling a joke. We cried laughing it was so bad. So bad in fact that it was good, if you understand me...........
