"The Subject Was Roses" with Martin Sheen. The entire film is predominantly shot in one or two rooms of his parent's house. Very boring. However, it is a great example of the destruction in a family system, due to parentification of child, alcoholism and emotional dependence of parent on child.

A movie called "Straight Story".
--Alvin Straight (Richard Farnsworth) is an ailing widower in his early 70's who lives in Laurens, Iowa with his daughter, Rose (Sissy Spacek), who is mildly retarded and has a speech defect. Alvin doesn't trust doctors, despite suffering from emphysema and a bad hip. Alvin learns that his brother Lyle (Harry Dean Stanton) has suffered a stroke and may not have long to live. Alvin and Lyle haven't spoken in 10 years, which Alvin says is mainly a matter of pride and alcohol; Alvin wants to clear his slate with his brother before it's too late. However, Lyle lives in Wisconsin, and Alvin has little money, no car, and no driver's license. He does, however, have a riding lawn mower, and so Alvin hops on board and heads northeast to Wisconsin, hoping to make it while there's still time. Along the way, Alvin makes new friends and refuses to give up on his journey, despite frequent mechanical breakdowns. Richard Farnsworth's performance as Alvin earned him an Academy Award nomination as Best Actor; (it would prove to be his final screen appearance, as he died a year after the film's release)
--Sounds like it could be ok, right? WRONG! It was an hour and a half of him ridning on the highway while cars pass. Stops for the night and maybe meeting a few people who tell him how cool it is, doing what he's doing. No character developement at all. None.
--My wife has never let me live this one down as it was one of my selections. (We take turns) Tom Cruise's "Magnolia' is a very close second. Three or so hours of terrible there. I feel dumber for having even watched that one.
I don't recommend these films to anybody but Bin Laden with it stuck in a continuous repeat loop. That's justice.

In recent film, A History of Violence...you've got to be kidding me. I wanted to shut it off, but I had way too much time invested in the thing and I was convinced something had to happen--but it didn't. Then it was over. Sorry Viggo, you couldn't even save that one. Maria Bello should not be allowed to act. And I thought Sideways sucked too. The best part was when Sandra Oh threw her motorcycle helmet at that jerk.
