System restore is a really good thing. If your system goes funny, or if you download something that affects your computer in a bad way you can go back to an earlier point and your computer will be working fine again. A good idea is to create a restore point when your computer is working great, so if it messes up you can get back to that point. It is not much use if your computer is ok though, bit of a waste of time doing it then.

One thing to remember about system restore is that it will restore the good as well as the bad. Meaning, if you get a virus or spyware infection it will also be included in your restore point. So next month when you restore your network connection you may also be restoring the virus you had 6 weeks ago. If you ever get a spyware or virus infection, go in and turn off system restore and then turn it back on. You will lose all of your old restore points, but you will also lose whatever bad things are hiding in them.

I would say use it before any major changes to your system and also at regular intervals too - it does give you a point that you can roll back to if you get system problems. When doing major installs I usually create restore points before and immediately after the install

However, do not rely on it as your only backup source as not everything is backed up in the restore point.

Yes, System Restore is a life-saver.
Maybe you updated stuff or deleted stuff like even
your connections. System Restore restores before
you downloaded stuff that messed the computer up./
Been there, done that

It will sort most problems, you should only use it when you have deleted a program which was needed by the computer or you have changed a setting which screwed the computer up.

My advice which is from experience, dont change any setting you are not sure of.
