Why was Israel given the Palestinian land after World War 2?

It was Germany who caused all the genocide. When Germany was defeated, it was just for the Jews to get a land of their own. So why didn't the winning powers (US, Britain, Russia) give a part of Germany itself to the Jews?

Why was the Palestinian land chosen to be given to Israel? What authority did the winning powers have to give somebody else's inhabited land to the Jews?

I am totally for Jews getting a country of their own? But why not somewhere else or even a part of Germany? After all, the Jews were all-over. They were in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Russia, US, France, Belgium, Czech, Belgium. Why did they want only the Arab owned land on the Mediterranean?

I don't buy the reasoning that the Jews were in the "Palestinian" land much before the Arabs inhabited it. Arabs were living there for 700-800 years.

By that logic, the native Indians were living in the US for last 3000 years. Does it mean Indians should rule the US?

When the UN decided to give the Jews a land in Palestine (Based on "Gods" verdict, as some say), didn't it foresee it would add to the long-term prblems? They could have made a Jew-only land in Germany and given it a country status. Jews should have accepted that as a peaceful compromise than kicking out Palestinians by claiming that Jews had the land a 1000 years ago.

Can someone give me an answer to my basic question... Why not a part of German land?

This is a very interesting question and one that I often pose to my students. First of all, the Jews were not given Palestinian land as a direct result of the Holocaust. In fact, the issue began thousands of years before . . .

The Jews originally inhabited what is now Palestine, then called Israel, during the days of the Roman Empire. The Jews were forcibly removed from their homes during the Diasporas (dispersion) and that is when they started turning up in Europe and other places in the world.

Throughout history, the Jews were scapegoats for many of the world's problems, and they found themselves being persecuted in their new lands. Indeed, their were many "mini-holocausts" in which Jews were targeted and killed (especially in Russia), and they always dreamed of returning to the land they were promised by God, Israel (now Palestine).

At the turn of the 19th century, a movement called Zionism started. This was basically Jewish nationalism, and called for the Jews to return to their homeland. Then WWI happened and the Ottoman Empire was on the losing side, meaning that the Middle East was in even more disarray. Former German colonies and territories controlled by the Ottomans were split between the winning Allies. England got control of Palestine and the Jews began pressuring England to allow them to immigrate to Palestine. England resisted and some Jews resorted to trying to strong-arm the English government into giving them Palestine/Israel! Finally, the English Prime Minister caved a little and allowed some Jews to immigrate back to Palestine. This caused the Palestinians to be very upset and angry, and their was some resistance. This issue continued with sporadic violence until WWII broke out, and then it got put on hold for awhile.

Fast forward to the end of WWII. The Jews of Europe have been virtually obliterated. If they are lucky enough to be alive, they certainly have no homes to return to. Once again, the pressure was on England to allow them to return to Palestine/Israel. England, now tired of dealing with this problem decided to turn over Palestine and the question of the Jewish homeland to the United Nations (1947).

After much debate, the UN decided to partition Palestine and give half of it to Israel so the Jews could create their own nation. One year later, Israel, a new country, expanded its territory into what the UN had declared Palestinian territory. The majority of the Palestinians fled or were kicked off of their land and were forced to become refugees in other middle eastern countries.

By 1967 many of the middle eastern countries were fed up with Israel and a war broke out. It was short and Israel was the victor, ensuring more land for the Jews (actually what was left of Palestine, the West Bank and Gaza Strip).

So, essentially, the Jews forced the Palestinians off of the land that the Palestinians had occupied for thousands of years based on the idea that God had promised the Jews that specific land, ancient Israel. The United Nations "sanctioned" the creation of Israel, but had originally intended for the Palestinians to keep some of their land. Israeli expansion, which some feel was too aggressive, gave the Jews the remaining Palestinian territory.

Of course, I left out some of the details, as the situation is extremely complicated, but hopefully I answered your questions.

Simple. The land was uninhabited wasteland. The powers that be, at the time (yeah, like anything has changed) were intensely anti-semitic. They wanted the "jew problem" solved so they gathered those people up and shoved them on what amounts to a reservation.

Through hard work, determination and not a little help from the United States, the jews turned that wasteland into prime real estate. It was only after the jews worked the land that arabs showed any interest at all in living there. Many arabs immigrated to Israel and were welcomed and given full citizenship.

As it became plain that Israel was to become a major power in the middle east, their Islamic neighbors decided to exterminate them. In an incredible betrayel, the arab citizens of Israel fled, hoping to take jewish land and possessions after they were all murdered. The jews kicked the asses of the combine muslim armies and pushed into the surrounding area as a DMZ. They offered to return those lands in exchange for a peace treaty and were refused. That refusal continues to this day and technically, Israel is in a state of war with its neighbors. An interesting side note is that Egypt finally DID make peace with Israel. It's leader at the time, Sadot, was murdered for it. That tells you something about where the muslims are coming from.

There are only a handful (like a couple hundred) of the old Israeli arabs left outside Israel. Most have died of old age. So, how come there are millions of arabs in Gaza and the West Bank? Because they have steadily been filtering down there from Jordan and other countries, for no other reason than to make war on Israel. In an incredible act of gall, they claim right of return.

Personal Belief: God disbanded the Jews in 70 AD, as prophesied by Christ. Daniel may have prophesied much the same thing. Even Moses said if the Jews turned away from God, which they did, then they would be disbanded into the ends of the earth. That removes the validity of the God argument in restoring the Jews to their own roots, by force. Book of Revelations saying it would be restored, in my view, is a stretch and adds words to the book and will be cursed by God at the end of time, at least. Revelations is a book subject to many, many interpretations and rarely taken as a whole. This is one of those interpretations. Some people have enriched themselves off some interpretations. Besides, if it was only 144,000 Jews (does not say by bloodline, either), then why did so many more Jews get settled to former Palestine? Why did Israel then more or less invade the rest of Palestine on their own?

More historically, the return of the Jews to Palestine is a muddle of reasons, more than I understand, not being a historian or a history buff. I think it gave the expansionist West a strategic foothold in the Middle East, so very rich in oil, known even then. I personally think we should have given all of Germany over to the Jews, told the Russians to flake off, and let the matter be settled.

God gave that land to the Jews about 4000 years ago and He said it was theirs forever. They have been driven from the land or taken into captivity numerous times throughout history, but always some Jews remained in the land. And always they returned. This time they were scattered for nearly 2000 years and yet managed to maintain a distinct religion, culture, language, and history. No others in history can make such a claim.

It was never called Palestine until 70 AD, during the diaspora, when the Romans were trying to exterminate the Jews and wound up driving them once again from their land. The word is derived from the word for Philistines--long an enemy of the Jews. It was intended as an insult, and it still is. And while some of the so-called Palestinians claim that they are descended from the Philistines, that is impossible for them to know. The Philistines ceased to be a distinct people several centuries before the birth of Christ. They simply blended into the rest of the Arabic (semitic) peoples. The only ancestry they can be certain of is that they are the children of Ishmael, Abraham's bastard son. Whereas the Jews are the children of Isaac, Abraham's legitimate son. (Yes, folks this is the oldest family feud on the planet.)

The arabs living in Israel before the nation was re-formed in 1948 were not different from other arabs elsewhere in the middle east. And frankly there already were more Jews living there than arabs. The arabs did not take up the Fake designation of Palestinian (as a group) until 1960's.

The idea that there is really such a thing as a Palestinian people is a fiction. They are the Fakestinians. They have no distinct language, history, or culture (unless you want to count throwing rocks and blowing yourself up as culture.) They are the dregs of the Arab world. If they were anything else they would have long ago been given a homeland by their Arab brothers in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, or Iran. But that never happened. They were content to let them live in squalor in refugee camps. Frankly, I don't blame them, I wouldn't want them in my neighborhood either.

Fortunately for the fakestinians the Jews have treated them better than any of their arab brothers ever did. The arabs living in Israel have had more rights and more freedom than any arabs living anywhere else in the middle east. (At least before democracy began in Afghanistan and Iraq.) However, they chose to repay that kindness with rockets, and homicide bombers murdering innocent civilians, men, women, and children alike.

You only got part of your history lesson. You missed the most important parts. Israel is the rightful land of the Hebrew people. Thus sayeth the Lord. And thus it shall remain. Amen.

It appears you don t want an answer, you want YOUR answer to be validated.

Just because you don t buy the fact that Jews had been driven from the lands centuries earlier doesn t make it an less true. You would just rather not see that, and instead insert that only Arabs have inhabited that land. You also gloss over the simple fact that not too many gave two f*cks about the land until the Jews created their own State on the land, and made the land desirable with care and work.

But hey, who cares about facts. As long as you can keep your blinders on and believe what you want, thats all that matters. And yes, American Indians are entitled to their own land. That is why there are millions of acres of land established strictly for their tribes uses. They self govern these lands, all within the borders (and protection) of the United States. They are US citizens, and yet they are allowed to live and rule as they see fit. It isn t paradise. It is whatever they would like to make it though, which is what Israel has done with the land designated for its own State and its own rule of law.

I think most of the explanations here have given a great answer to this question. But I wanted to comment on your assumption that it was only Nazi Germany against the Jews during WWII and therefore they should be giving their land. It shows that you really do not know your history and should not be caught up with liberal hype which hides the facts. The Muslims were very close with Adolf Hilter and found with him. There as a caliph back then which was the head of Islam. The fall of the ottoman empire in 1929 ended the office of the caliphate. the Caliph is an absolute monarch over a united Islamic world. Please realize that the Arab world is trying to recreate this now...ISIS.

Both Arabs and Jews owned the land that the British called Palestine. The Jews were willing to have both people live there, but the Moslem Arabs wanted all of the Jews murdered down to the last small child. So the war started and hasn't really stopped since.
