what to do is the following 1
ping your local host this will test for tcp/ip problems this is from the command prompt
ping 127.0.0.1 if u get 4 sent 4 rec that is fine
ping a website like bbc.co.uk
then its ip address of 212.58.224.36

if these 2 fail at all, then it could be windows, firewall, spyware etc..
or could be a fault with winsock.
a mini fix for this is from the command prompt
type in netsh int ip reset reset.

or u can google for how to do a winsock on windows xp service pack 1

uninstall your programs ...all of them reload your windows disk it will ask if you want to repartition your hard drive YES allow the disk to load everything.. roboot your puter when finished and go to microsoft.com and install service pack to for windows xp this should solve your problems
be sure to save all your pics and documents to disk or floppy first
download norton antivirus they have a free trial for 15 days if you dont have the disk
