How do you figure out what to plant in your front yard? Are there any professionalists that can give you hints? Or websites.......

Could you put a little waterfall for the front yard or that would be mostly for the back?

Are you a gardener, or totally new at growing things? Do you want to have the yard use a lot of water (gotta think water bill vs. free water). Do you want to mow a lawn twice a week? Do you want to eat what you grow? Do you want a manicured area, or more of a wild area? Do you want lots of shade, all year, or trees that let in sun during winter, but give shade during summer?

Do you have a few thousand dollars to spend, or ten thousand? Or more? Do you have just a hundred dollars? There are all sorts of options.

Have you watched any of those tv shows on making over yards? Now those are pricey yards with fountains, brick or stone, and cost a hundred grand. Whew, too much for me.

I am a long time gardener, like to plant my own things, and it takes me a number of years to get my yard looking nice. What gets planted depends mostly on climate.

If you want to plant things yourself, you might check out some gardening forums such as gardenweb, organicgardening and so on.

Don't you have any ideas or likes of your own? It can depent
a lot on what type home you have. If it is a cottage with a
white picket fence, then hollyhocks, roses, just about anything
will do. If you have a larger manor type then most go for shrubs, decorative trees etc. You can get advice from your local nursery too. These days many people are putting in little ponds with running water etc. My friend just had one put in with a small
bridge over it...very nice. Good luck.

Look on internet for Landscapers. A good idea is to contact someone who "stages" a home for sale. They come in and tell you simple things to do to make your home eye-catching and have curb appeal. Contact any realty company, they can recommend a stager.

Most home and garden stores can give you names...look into landscape management in the yellowpages....That would be your best bet.
