Yes and my brakes are bad from stopping quick to avoid those people chatting on the phone not paying attention. I don't have a cell phone although I should get one. We didn't use to have them at all. We got along just fine before.

There has been several independant studies done which showed talking on a cell phone while driving (hands free or not) were equivalent to drunk driving. It was worse when certain types of conversations were taking place, those that involved memory, arithmetic, and reasoning, seemed to steal concentration away from driving skills. Some used radio listening, even books on tape, as control subjects and found they did not suffer from the same effects as talking on a cell.

I don't know, but when looking for signs on the interstate on a trip, or being in an unfamiliar congested location, or even being lost, if I have people in the car I usually ask them nicely to be quiet to concentrate. I even find myself turning down the radio at those times too, and I'm sure some others can relate to doing the same. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the phone at those times either.

Probably never. If you were an old fart like me, you would remember the same situation when they introduced the car radio. It caused just as much trouble with people dialing the stations while driving. (Remember the first car radios had rotary dials and tuning was not so easy as stations also had only a fraction of the power as present) Everyone finally accepted it and there was no stopping it, just as the phone is. Even if they outlaw it, the usage would not change. So get used to it and maybe attend a road rash work group to overcome your excessive use of your finger, after all, what does that do to improve the situation.

Why should driving and talking on the cell phone be illegal? It's still legal to talk on a CB Radio, or to talk to passengers, or to drink coffee, tune your radio, change CD's, control your MP3 player, and so on.

We already have laws against reckless driving...that should be enough.

I wish they would hurry up. I was driving home to Utah from Georgia and coming through Illinois I was rear ended from a drunk driver who was on his cell phone. He was arrested but, his parents bailed his little 19 year old butt out of jail. He should of stayed in there. He didn't kill any of us thank goodness but my daughter, son and grandson were in the Motorhome while we were pulling my sons belongings back to Utah. All belongings were trashed. Let me know how we can speed this process up and I will help. Thanks for the question. Becky

They're working on it, people get side-tracked when they're 'celling, it's getting stupid...make your phone call, THEN drive...if you get a call, answer it, but pull over legally and talk...
people don't want to tolerate any inconvenience behind the wheel, they want it ALL, and they'd like it NOW, please...in other words, people can be greedy, selfish, and stupid. Drive defensively, the life you save may be your own...

I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing were in the works already, and I hope they do it soon, too. I've seen one too many accidents waiting to happen thanks to people talking on a phone while driving.
