In Europe when people have weddings or engagements, they take the gift to a special store where they wrap it all nice for them in cellophane with lots of bows and ribbons. I'm having a hard time finding something like that here. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi- I own a store called Lisa's Gift Wrappers, www.lisasgiftwrappers.com.
Yes it is hard to sustain business all year round- but we do alot of different things, like corporate work, special items like bridal favors or hotel guest bags.
I've been doing this for 12 years- 10 years from my house and then made the leap to a retail location 2 years ago.
There is a store in New York called Kate's Papiere and then one called SOOLIP.
Scotch Brand Tape has a contest every year for America's Most Gifted Wrapper.

I'm bad at wrapping. I don't know why, I've never been able to do it well. But usually instead of having the store wrap it I usually use the gift bags and tissue paper. Unless it's my best friend's gift. We usually have a competition to see which of us can do the crappiest or craziest wrapping. Or sometimes we do the thing where we wrap it in a whole bunch of layers so it takes forever to unwrap it. Neither of us care if the gift wrapping is pretty or not. We'd rather have fun with it.

Some of the larger 'pricey' department stores have that service. Places like Target, K-mart, and Wal-mart don't. Some of the specialty boutiques will do gift wrap on the spot - it's a service that they offer to insure your return business. Most larger chains offer on-line service, with a gift registry, and offer gift wrapping and delivery service. They will wrap it for the occasion, attach a card as you indicate, box it with protective materials, ship it via commercial carrier so it arrives on the specified date and at the address you provide. There are not many shops that specialize in gift wrapping, here, as the 'non-holiday' off-season business is not enough to sustain them.

Some higher-end department stores will wrap gifts for you, especially around Christmas time. Many mail-order places will gift-wrap, but I doubt it will be as impressive as what you're describing.
It occurs to me that you might try a good florist shop, though. They would have the cellphane, bows, etc...

In the U.S., upper-end department stores usually will gift wrap things for you around Christmas, but I'm not sure about the rest of the year. You might call Sears or Macy's and see what they say.

Most high end stores offer that service. It's usually in the back.
