Im having a colpscopy done in several weeks and wanted to know what exactly to expect. Im really scared about having this done. I was told to take several advil beforehand to ease the pain and that was it. Can anyone offer me any information on their experiences with this? Please!

Im having the colpscopy performed because I have HPV/genital warts. The doctor found that they have spread to the inside wall of the vagina, but not on the cervix.

It totally sucks, but is necessary. Just try to relax and not think about it. The pain is not obvious. They will snip off little pieces of your cervix, but you will only feel a little pressure. Afterwards is when it hurts. You should also wear a pad for a bit afterwards because you can expect discharge, and it will be colored.

I had to have this done several years ago due to a cyst. It takes place much like you yearly Pap does, only they take a small sample, which does cause some discomfort. Try taking two-three Tylenol or something of that nature. The whole procedure only takes a couple of minutes, but it can be a little painful. But it's worth it, better safe than sorry I always say.

a colpo is preformed to look at a cervix under the microscope and take biopsies of abnormal looking squamous and columnar epithelium. The biopsy goes to a pathologist for further evaluation to check for developing cervical cancer. The advil is and NSAID that will help with the pain.
