This is about soccer.... not the country itself. This country actually rocks

You must remember that in most countries, football (soccer) is really the only game in town. I'm from England but I live in Canada now and it's just not the same over here in North America. In 99% of the world Football (soccer) is a religion. As someone once said. " Football (soccer) is not a matter of life and death, it's more than that". I don't think that the U.S. team suck, but they are definitely not as good as the F.I.F.A. rankings give them credit for.

I think that some Americans (not you), instead of bashing Italy because they couldn't score against the USA when they were a man down, should think the other way round. Granted, that was the worst game Italy played, but if the USA didn't let them score, maybe they aren't so terrible ;-)
Ghana won the game because of a PK. The only really terrible game they played was against the Czech Republic. They weren't even moving.

Personally, I think that team USA with a better coach could do better. They still have a long way to go to equal some European or South American teams, but they can make it. Especially if the new generations play less American football and care more about soccer ;-)

Because soccer is just not an emphasized sport in the NCAA. It's all about American football & basketball there, with even baseball a reasonably distant third. While it's very popular as a youth sport, the colleges just aren't boosting it, and in the USA, most professional athletes seem to emerge from the NCAA. If soccer were to be pushed up in colleges to the same level as American football & hoops, we'd see more world class players. We're just not developing the players. Parents of kids with athletic talent see more $$ in the other sports, and push their kids that way.

I THINK THE REAL REASON IS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC.....
THIS YEAR THE AMERICAN TEAM WENT TO THE WORLD CUP ON A CREST OF A WAVE FROM 2002.
THEY DID GOOD FOR ONCE AND THE MEDIA HYPED THEM UP LIKE NO OTHER WORLD CUP CAMPAIGN.
SUDDENLY ON TV YOU SEE ADS SAYING THE WORLD DOESNT LOOK FORWARD TO PLAYING US....ITS THE BEST TEAM EVER!........KASY KELLER IS THE WORLDS BEST KEEPER!!!!!
I THINK THE TEAM BOUGHT ALL THAT AND SOME OF THE PUBLIC.
HOWEVER YOU AMERICANS HAVE THIS ATTITUDE THAT WE WILL WIN.AND WHEN YOU LOOSE YOU CHANGE IT TO WHO CARES WE ARE NOT BOTHERED BY "SOCCER" WHEN REALLY ALL THOSE THAT SAY THIS WOULD BE OVER THE MOON IF THE USA WON THE WORLD CUP!!!!
YOU SHOULD BACK YOUR COUNTRY IF ITS IN BASEBALL, ARM WRESTLING AND ANYTHING ELSE BUT YOU DONT AND THEN HAVE THE BALLS TO SAY YOUR PATRIOTIC!!!!!!

Don't generalize about all Americans. The Bush Administration sucks, but 48% of Americans voted for John Kerry!

Because you believe everything you see and hear from the "liberal" schools you have been methodically going to all your life...turn off Charley Gibson, Dan Rather and their ilk. Think for yourself and, Pick one other place on the planet that has more opportunities for you to succeed in life...there are none...You have been ROBOTIZED... if you keep drinking their Kool-aid, someday you to can participate in a "Rolling Fast" with Cindy Sheehan and Reverand Jackson. One of the best freedoms in the U.S. is the ability to say things (such as your question) that would get you shot and killed by the government of another country, just ask KIM JONG IL"S people in N. Korea

Because we don't care that much about soccer.

Sports (just like music or chess) requires raw talent and long practice to attain championship status. The US does not have a large percentage of its population that cares much for soccer, and it is only one sport among many others that our children play. Compare this to countries where soccer is an obsession, and this should help answer your question.

Becuase almost all the player's one the team were'nt even born in the USA .

So they don't feel any ties to the USA an hence dont feel they have to WIN for there "country" an make there "country" proud of them and bring back the title to there "country" !

Say it has an Argentina player in team USA , that guys more woried if Argentina is going to beat Germany, than if USA is going to beat
Ghana !

Say it has a Colombian , in team USA he's still pissed that Colombia didnt even qualify for the World Cup ! So let's just say he has better thing's on his mind than wining the World Cup !

Say they have a Brazilian in team USA , he'still pissed at the USA becuase it took the goverment 5 years for them to let him bring his family over ! An he's only still in team USA because he an his family dont want to go back to the Brazilian slums !

Say they have a Mexican in Team USA , he's pissed becuase the Govermnet is thinking about deporting all the mexicans or giving them amnisty , while his dad got deported 3 years ago ! So he's also still in it for the money.

Oh yea say theres a Portuges guy in team USA, but he looks like a muslim an got beat up on the street by some red necks so he wants revenge , an is planing to sabatoging the USA in the World Cup by missing Goals on purpose ! (an other stuff like that)

Oh an say Freddy adu , got called a Ni**** so he's planing to also mess up USA dreams for the World Cup !

hmm thats about it !

"Oh no he did'nt" - oh yes i did woman !!

No but fro real ; Lola P is Rite !

Because soccer does not involve hitting anything with a stick or running anybody over or being 6' 8.
