If there was an asteroid making its way towards the earth at 86, 000 mph, I doubt any space program could do anything about it. And I am a Conservative (mostly).

Who the heck cares about teflon???!! Sure it's nice to not have to scrub my pots, but I could have lived without it, however, I'm not going to be able to live when my taxes are so high that I have no money for anything else! I'd rather be using steel wool like the good old days!!!

I know it's not the government's money...that's why I said "the money that it doesn't have".

Not totally, satellites are a good thing. But spending $100,000,000,000 to go back to the moon, that barren desolate rock? Yes! When the government was asking where they could find all the billions needed to fix the damage from Katrina, I wrote my congress people and said that would be a good place to start.
Space exploration has little, if any return for the investment (we already have Teflon) and we can't go far enough until someone invents a "warp drive" or it's equivalent. Some fools think we can mine other planets. I have just one question for them. What could we possible mine that would be valuable enough to allow a profit after the hundreds of billions it would take to start doing it?

I don't believe space exploration is a total waste, since it does provide us with knowlege and a better understanding of the universe. Pure knowlege is good in itself, and a lot of what we learn will probably be of direct benefit in future years. Think of all the benefits we get from satellite technology, for example.
However, I do think our current space programs are an inefficient use of resources. We have much more pressing needs to address, and the cost of space travel is getting to be too expensive relative to the immediate benefit we get in return. It makes more sense to me to focus research here on Earth, and wait until we have more efficient modes of space travel before starting any more ambitious space projects. By that time, private space travel may be possible, which would save us (the taxpayers) even more.

If I saw that the government was not throwing money away, but in fact really trying to make the social programs work more efficiently to benefit more people, then I may agree with you. When they take care of the illegals (by that I mean get rid of them), instead of supporting them I may want more money diverted to help those United States citizens that really need it. Until then I can't support another nickle going to a social program.

No, many discoveries have come from the space program, teflon is one I can think of right off. However I do think they need to actually start doing things again instead of looking at stuff and saying how neat it is. If they have plans for terra forming Mars, then they need to hope to it, you don't need to map every square inch of the planet to move forward.

are you kidding the space program costs nothing next to the golf war and w/o counting the cost of blood and what happens when we blow ourselves up w/ nukes (or insert your choice of nautral disaster or any way the world could end) and humans die out b/c we didnt explore space and colonize other planets

Pretty much. We could spend it on making poor people not poor anymore, blah blah blah, it'll never happen because all the people in power are evil. Meh.
