It depends on which "The Shining" you are talking about, there were several! The one with Jack Nicholson kicks the butt of "the ring"!

here it depends The Shining (1980) and The Shining (1997) both of them are really good ... but The Ring (2002) is more freaky.

the shining was much scarier than the ring it just has a feeling of unease all the way through it and the eye was much scarier than the ring just don't read the back of the box if you buy it as it gives away a good twist P...

I would have to go with the original version of The Shinning. But the best horror movie of all times is the original 1968 black and white Night of the Living Dead
