They use some of their own components (or at least used to a few years ago) that make them difficult to upgrade. A computer engineer friend of mine couldn't fit a new hard drive into one without ringing Packard Bell to get a disk sent to him that would allow the fitment. On this basis I wouldn't touch them

as a simple PC not bad
but service help almost nonexistant
backup useless
and if you want to upgrade don't bother you have to return to packard bell for parts
in all providing they don't stop working a reasonable machine
if you want a decent machine fujitsu are not bad i've got a laptop and upgraded the memory fine
a Packard Bell my wife uses is always going wrong fortunatly I have a Complete set of discs for this an extra £45 and the PC was down for 2 weeks while they delivered then these discs are PC specific

Personally if you want a decent PC I'd say get someone to build it for you, but if you want a prebuilt PC as they go Packard Bell's aren't awful. I've had more problems with Dell's and Fujitsu's (mainly because of the cheap parts they use) than Packard Bell's and my cousins have got one that has lasted for years without problems, so I have nothing bad to say against them.

this is really a case of IMO, so In My Opinion they are rubbish, Packard Bell have a long history of building machines with proprietory parts, thats to say unique to them (PB). This is great until you want to upgrade or re-install, then it can really cause problems, just check out the PB groups on Google, you'll find loads of disgruntled users. This is all down to my personal experiances with other peoples computers (i dabble a bit) and they (PB) are useless.

They're crap! Far better to buy another mainboard with the specs you want, you already have a CD, HDD & Floppy etc; and this way you have a NEW PC for under £50. Get your mainboard from a Computer Fair, try this link to see if one is close to you. Believe me its worth it! Just have the details of the CPU at hand when/if you go.

all mass produced computers use the cheapest parts they can find that is how they keep costs low. A good computer contains standard parts of good quality. In the computer world a "custom" computer is actually made with industry standard parts, and a "standard" computer dell HP gateway use custom parts. If you are somewhat computer literate build your own with quality parts

They checked it out and stated it became the exhibit screen i presumed thank god i purchased the exhibit screen from them 6 months in the past, yet low and behold they doesn't replace it, I had to ring the producer up who despatched a currier the subsequent day. i'm now the holder of a sparkling pc and utilising a crappy exhibit screen. i'm on a public library computer and all of them here are gateways. they work fine everyday. i think the big thing now is support. it doesn't matter how good your computer is, if you don't have good support, you got nothing.
