We stand at a critical moment in history. Where do we go from here? Every day we are faced with difficult policy choices -- Do we spend more on education or on defense? More on environmental problems or poverty? More on combatting terrorism or combatting corruption? Does the government have too much power? Is the press irresponsible? Is it acceptable to restrict personal freedom in the war on poverty? -- These are difficult problems. It's hard to know how to solve many of these issues. It's hard to know which ones to solve first. It's hard to know when we have to choose.

It seems to me that we could start by asking each other what kind of world we're trying to create. So that is my question. What kind of society do we want to live in? What would it be like if we could achieve it? Ideals are fine, but it's not abstract ideals I'm asking for. I'm asking for practical, tangible answers. Tell me something specific about the world that you would like to live in.

This is an excellent question. I think up until now we haven't really
tried to control the direction of our society's development. A lot
of us just follow the money and that has led to technological
advances that have been beneficial to us all-but have often harmed the environment.
I would like to see the White House focusing on the problem
of global warming, maybe even make it the top priority. They
could spend more money on scientific research instead of defense, looking for ways to repair the damage done to the ozone
layer and then implementing them. Also more effort could be made by the U.S. government in working with other countries
in dealing with the effects of global warming.
It doesn't have to be just the leaders to make changes. If we could get our society to be less dependent on certain things-like
cars. Not everybody needs to own one, especially if more effort
were made to improve public transportation in the cities. That
could help decrease the level of air pollution. As well,we can work on ways to try to reduce the rate of destruction of the world's
rainforests,particularly the Amazon.
I know there are many other problems we can all focus on-terrorism,crime,poverty and so on. They're all important, but I
would like to see the people and governments make the environment the first priority-it's the one that affects all of us directly. As much as a dwindling number of people continue to
deny it,in the future global warming will be much more of a problem than it is now.It may result in droughts, famines
and floods as well as climate changes.

I would say bring home the troups, they would do some much more good over here in our own land.. they could help with the rebuilding of the hurrican victums.. and help out with so many other project that just don't have the man power to get our people off the streets and a roof over their heads and food in their bellies.. We have gone way above and beyond our call of duty in iraq and iran, and it is way past time to come home, and korea too.. bring the men and women home, and lets get America built back up and help our own people.. I do believe if the people of the US saw men and women in uniform working to build a home or make a safer playground, and build a soup kitchen, they would be more willing to chip in and help.. let our money go for us, and stop the silly ways we have been blowing it on other countrys, they do not want our help, they have more than proven that to us.. Let our boys come home and help us out.. We need it just as badly as the other countrys do.. We have those small children with the flies on their faces for the commercials too !! The poor here are more than willing to help themselves too, if they only had some help to get them started.. I am very sorry there are starving people in other countries, but think we need to take care of our own first, and then we can start to help with the others, but to show them how to do it on their own, not do it all for them, and then get no thanks or respect for it..

I would like to live in a society where money doesn't exist.
I know it sounds like taking a huge step back, but let's face it; the reason for wars is always money or power (power that you achieve by having money or land). The reason why most of the people go to a work that they don't even like is money.
When did we became slaves of paper?
sorry if my answer is not practical on tangible....

Truly, to me, living in a society of perfection and complete harmony would throw me off my rocker, just as it would anyone else! Humans aren't made(or as it seems) to be able to deal with perfection, and can't obviously be perfect ourselves, so unfortunately there will always be problems. What we need most in my opinion, in modern day society, is kindness, and being happy for what we have. If you met someone on the street who was completely sweet and nice, wouldn't you feel somewhat touched by him/her?Enough to try kindness yourself? Even if we can't make it perfect as I said before, trying is much better than giving up and living in complete mess, yes?Being happy for what we have is major too, because if we all put down all that we could of our selfish desires, our lazy and no desire attitudes, and picked up some good old commitment to living for Jesus, and some drive for life with happiness for what we have, wouldn't we all be better off?Add kindness to that and society would be as much better off as if the peace we've all been preaching about came walking right up to our doorsteps.

Id like it if we could all see each other as equal irrespective of gender or race, or position in society. I would like to see the silent majority get motivated politically. Heal your self then your family then community then the world. I would like to see every adult taking responsibility for what they do say and think , Id like it if people realized how effected by negativity we are as humans and especially babies. Id like to see home swaps between rich and poor so we can all understand each other better. Id like to see emotional needs taking precedence over money. Id like to see the communities come together to help each other ie help single mothers get back to work by having neighbors especially oaps do babysitting. I would put all young offenders to work in the earth digging and producing vegetables that are sold in the community. i would want to see the saying don't do to other what you wouldn't want done to you, become a moto to live by.. I would like to see honesty in thought and action by politicians. I d like to see all churches band together and tolerate each others belief systems, recognizing there is only one creator but many pathways to him. peace n love :-))

I think I'll take my 2 points and pass on this one. I can be pretty long-winded, but the best of the pontificators are already here, and now, there's no space left!
