Dogs mark territories and routes with their urine.
Dogs are lousy sight memorizers, their brain is better when odour memory is available. So when they explore a zone, they leave urine marks to know where they are, much as we put names and numbers on streets.
Urine also tells them which female is ready to have sex with and how soon one is going to ovulate, and they stay in the area waiting to leave a new gene-mix on the dog's gene pool.

I've seen my dog to back and forth for 15 minutes befor pooping in the same place she started in. I know urnie is used to mark territory, but maybe feces works in a similar way. I've heard of dogs that eat other dogs feces, perhaps to remove it from their area. I've also noticed that my dog doesnt defecate in the same area all the time. Perhaps she's trying to spread her scent around. Finally dogs naturally don't want to defecate in the same place they sleep so perhaps they just want to get their feces away from the rest of their territory.

they don't seem searching you or your possessions. they are in basic terms strolling a dogs round in a public area. the realm round your motor vehicle isn't your belongings in any respect. If in the course of reported walk, the dogs smells some thing it quite is originating on your motor vehicle, it quite is likely reason to hunt extra. same as if the law enforcement officials smells pot, sees a gun, sees a liquor bottle and so on in the vehicle, he can seek for extra. The courts have ruled in this many, many circumstances. you fairly do not even should be stopped for some thing. when you're parked in plenty, and the dogs hits on your motor vehicle, it ought to correctly be searched. They walk dogs round airports and luggage each and every of the time, no warrant needed. So, no, they don't choose your persission or a warrant to stroll a dogs round your motor vehicle. not in any respect have, not in any respect will.

Dogs mark their territory so another dog well know they have been in the area. Dogs communicate by smell.

Uhh...yeah, good question. And much more so when it comes to 'pooping' rather than 'peeing'. Poop hierarchy? Maybe you should have tried this question in the Pet category? Inaccurate, but more hits.

I think they are checking to smell who else has been there. Maybe they are also checking for females in heat.
