Before I started to answer this ,I had to read some response from the others. I find it interesting how some people can trash one brand then praise the other. I personally have never owned a Mercedes but I have owned a Subaru. Another interesting thing is that I have never thought of any reason to compare the two. I have ridden in both of the cars and can say that the Mercedes has a much smoother ride (perhaps because of the longer wheelbase). When it comes to repair costs I am totally sure the lower price of the Subaru can be greatly appreciated. If you don't pay these costs , go with the best ride.

Um why are you comparing a Subaru to a Mercedes?

I went to a mall where they were trying to show off Subaru's and I must say the fit and finish was horribly put together. For ex.(loose center console, loose weather stripping,Un even gaps on a 45,000 dollar SUV and cheap materials. The doors close with a typical Japanese clunk of cheapness!IWhile Mercedes Benz are pretty much perfect in every way,The doors thud with precision, the interior is fitted with utmost precision, and the fit and finish is perfect and the solid feel of the car is amazingly overwhelming. Most Mercedes are much more powerful than Subaru's and are obviously better made.Subaru's are great cars for people looking for sporty family cars though.Mercedes are more for the successful people.Mercedes are just superior to Subaru in every possible way.Why don't you compare Benzes with BMW's or Rolls Royce. Why was it Subaru.Subaru's are comparable to Mitsubishi!

Why can you only choose those two brands? Merc = comfort Subaru= sporting why not go with BMW which has a better mix of both?

Also can't say which based on brand. Obviously mercedes is a better brand but if your going to get a Mercedes A/ B class or the WRX then you cant compare them...

Should have given specific model choices!

I would be careful on Mercedes if I were you. Everyone doesn't know that ever since year 2000, all Mercedes models started getting assembled in MEXICO. Bad, bad, bad. Mercedes isn't as good as it used to be. Getting a Mercedes made before 2000 is great, but you might as well know Subaru's motto: All-Wheel Drive, Standard. Subarus are fun to drive, especially the WRX ST-i.

Purely in terms of company car tax, you sould go for a mercedes diesel, all the petrol Subaru engines (and they are all fairly high performance) will crush you with their respective tax burden. How had you amnaged to narrow your search to one of either MB or Subaru?!

Of those two, possibly the Merc although they tend to be ovepriced for what they are. It depends what you want from a car. The Merc (190D version) is used as a taxi in Germany! A better car is the Lexus - a corporate chauffeur driver told me they got better cars at a better price and more reliable on delivery

If you want to get noticed there is no difference, if you want to resell later - mercedes, if you want a comfortable ride - mercedes, if you want points on your licence - subaru - if you want to corner in excess on 40mph - subaru, if you live on an estate and don't want your car vandalised or nicked - subaru, you do the math

it depends on the age of the car. i'd much rather have a new subaru than a 70s merc, but since im assuming you are goign for new ones get the merc (my mom has a subaru and the seats are terrible for long drives)

I'd say drive both and decide with one you like more, since you're the one who'll be driving it.

Personally I think that Subaru cars have a better look and I know they are fun to drive.
