The same...the starboard, or "steer(ing) board" side. The term goes back to the Vikings who put their rudder, or "steer board" on the right-hand side.
Oddly though, I HAVE seen left-sided boats...but they were custom built.

The Helm or steering wheel as you call it. Is always located on large vessels on the bridge of a ship and in the center of the bridge cabin.To be directly in line with the rudder, which is the only thing that really guides the ship to port or starboard or dead ahead.

If it's a sailboat, the wheel is usually on the centerline unless it's a dual wheel setup in which case there is a wheel on each side of the centerline.
