The world is not. The people on TV are and quite possibly people you choose to be friends with are but the rest of the world is not.

There are two world's here that you may be considering. One is the created universe, and oh, it is not superficial. It is wondrously made and deeply and intrinsically beautiful, not with a superficial beauty, but with (because I cannot find better words for you) a joyfully holy beauty.

The other world you may be considering is the world of men, of society, politics, economics.

And some of this is not superficial at all. But the more we move towards materialistic values and the more we are concerned with our own pride, our own power, and our own possessions, the more superficial we become.

The world is not superficial at all, in my opinion. Living in this world is so hard that sometimes WE may look superficial by trying to make it easier.

It's not, really. We live here for many years and it is all we know (give or take religious beliefs). Don't start believing that everything you do is superficial. It's not! The world is real; the things we do are real. As long as we understand that, we'll be alright. Find personal meaning in your life and you'll see.

Humans are born without discipline, and consequently normally have small attention spans. Most everything we do is simply to amuse ourselves and let the time pass while we sit on this rock 98 million miles from a star that's gonna last about 5 million, million more years (yes, million twice... 18 zeroes). I personally believe that just about everything we do is derived from boredom. Everything from the invention of money, to the 5 day work week. Man's worst mistake was crawling out of the trees.

We are sensory base biological entities first and for most, abstract spiritual and metaphysical musings are just that, fantasy play.

So the really question really is, are we just clever monkeys or are we in some way divine?
