Newport is a wonderful place. It was the summer resort for the rich. In the 19th century many wealthy people had the best architects build elaborate mansions that they called "cottages"
They were very incredibly elaborate. For example "The Breakers","The Elms", "Marble House". These mansions can be visited today. The various Vanderbuilts were competing with each other for the most opulent mansions. Also Newport is a great sports mecca. There is yachting, tennis, boating, etc. It is
home to the Tennis Hall of Fame. It is also historic with several religious buildings like Trinity Church.
