No kidding, the more people visit and add you to their link page, the higher you get on the list.
I know this is weird but it is the same in banking. Banks are only happy to lend you money if you have it.

the only way to get a high ranking at google and a few others is to have lots of sites link to yours. don't let google catch you asking other sites to link to yours or you'll be banned. this was mentioned in a book called "google hacks"
