First because the macs are expensive and most of people can't afford that and secondary because they are used to using Windows and they can't change it.

I'm guessing you're a graphic designer or a kid who's parents bought the Mac because you thought it looked trendy.
Why is it Mac user always whine about PCs and rarely the other way round. I've used both - professionally and at home - so I think my opinion is informed. Mac are just not as good as you people make out. For most people buying a computer is a large outlay. Value for money plays a big part of the decision and a Mac is not value for money. Software's a hassle - not everywhere has a great choice. Is this enough, or would you like me to go on....Unreliable (had a G3 and it was the worst machine I'd ever used), crappy networking (had a Mac & PC network connected together - the PC could always access the Mac area, the Mac's where always dropping the connections to the PC area), et al.
Do the words BETAMAX, VIDEO2000, 8 TRACK mean anything to you.....it's only a matter of time.

In due time, more people will switch. What keeps them from using Macs right now is fear. Its fear of a system they are told is sooo different, and its fear to pay a extra bucks for a way better product.
PC fans can whine all they want, but the bottom line is, when the hardware, operating system, and software manufacturer is the same company (Apple), there is only compatibility! Not true with PC.
I edit video witha 4 year old Mac Powerbook laptop computer....EVERYDAY! Editing audio and video is probably the hardest task you can put a computer through. To this date....no issues. Especially a laptop. I'd like to see that happen on a PC.
Now that Macs can run Windows too, there is no more reason for anyone to not switch.

Do you mean choose a mac over a PC ? Because I have some Wintel PC's and some Linux PC's.
But if I have a problem with my PC, I can go online & order a part from any number of different suppliers. When it arrives, I can take the cover off my PC & fit it.
But I DO also own a Mac - it's broken & I'm using it as a doorstop.

Many people prefer Windows over Mac because of accessibility. Since most offices started with Windows, they got used to the layout and became loyal to Windows. As time passed, more and more people got exposed to Windows and got used to it. Therefore, most programs are designed for Windows, hence Mac users often get less choices of programs on the market.
No one probably thinks Mac is really all that bad, it is just that people got so used to Windows already and switching to Macs would not be something they feel comfortable with. It could have easily been the other way around.

They're probably poorly informed or don't bother to do their research when making a purchase. A PC is rapidly becoming the more costly platform to maintain due to viruses, hacking, breakdowns, and the regular need to upgrade. The accounts department in businesses will say it's cheaper to replace a PC than to replace a Mac, but a Mac is far more likely to run error-free for it's entire useful life, which is potentially much longer than a typical PC. So it comes down to ill-informed decisions when buying, really, and the saturation in the marketplace of PC's (a knock-on effect of their popularity because their components are so cheap).

I'm not going to put a long answer - but...
1. Window is every where - im lucky i dont have to use it at work.
2. People are scared to change from what they learn on/with - colleges and Uni's use to use UNIX (and BBCs in the UK) years ago but now its all Windows...errr.
3. Pirated software... Say no more!! but its every where for Windows. "What can i get you sir? Something for the weekend?"
4. Windows has actually improved. From a geeks point of view - but more so from a PC dummy's view point. PCs with Windows running (as opposed to running Linux - which is fantastic for people in the know) generally are easy to use - configurer and get started on. Even more so than the MAC - which is very fast.
5. Advertisements... Hmmm ive never seen OS/2, Linux, Unix, WIMPS, Kickstart(LoL) advertised - have u? Seen Mac adds though.
6. There is a myth MAC are more powerful which is not true, but Darn they look much beter, Sound beter, feel beter. - but silly only having one mouse button to look cool :)
7. Generally, MAC are not that much MORE expensive than PCs (unless you want power - i.e you aint using a word processor), but they do cost a bit more for what you get. but most people are happy with the trade off - for style and size. (have you seen the size of the mini?????? have a look at that spec!!! and look now!!! i mean it!! look!! about as bit as a sandwich box and so powerful!!! )
-- BTW: -
-- MAC is owned by Microsoft.
-- All new MACs use intel chipset.
-- MACS is now IBM PC compatable YUCK! OUCH!

The largest number of computers are are purchased for businesses where decisions are made primarily by administrators based on financial considerations as opposed to performance. Since PCs were initially cheaper and could function enough to do the basics, they were typically given the nod. Now that the price of Macs is closer to that of PCs, choosing PCs for businesses is mostly based on the fact that Microsoft has acheived by far the largest market share and concomitantly has the best known brand, a widely used common operating system and the largest base of software. In addition, computer administrators and most of the computer users are now used to PCs and there is resistance to learning something new. Microsoft acheived this market share because they are smart about how businesses make decisions, not because they have the best technology. There is a lesson in this......

People usually choose to buy the more popular thing, not necessarily the best thing. The Mac was originally used by designers, but now more people are starting to use them - especially with all the viruses out.
Also, every Mac is made by Mac, and virtually the same.
There are so many computers that are PC compatable, that there are just more to choose from.
"Viva la Mac!"

easy one this - It's market share because Microsoft has the greater market share they end up cheaper and companies are more likely to design software for them than macs. Haven't used macs in awhile but in terms of ease of use and stability they were superior to Windows.
It's just that they were snobbish about becoming a mass produced available in every home commodity. Their undoing.

Because a majority of software and games comes out specifically for microsoft computers first. An example is the Sims; the version for Mac came out about 6 months after the one for PC.
