What is your question?

NEC Definition -
320.2 Armored Cable, Type AC. A fabricated assembly of insulated conductors in a flexible metallic enclosure

320.10 Uses Permitted -
Where not subject to physical damage, Type AC cable shall be permitted as follows:
(1) In both exposed and concealed work
(2) In cable trays where identified for such use
(3) In dry locations
(4) Embedded in plaster finish on brick or other masonry, except in damp or wet locations
(5) To be run or fished in the air voids of masonry block or tile walls where such walls are not exposed or subject to excessive moisture or dampness

320.12 Uses not permitted -
Type AC cable shall not be used as follows:
(1) In theaters and similar locations, except where permitted in 518.4
(2) In motion picture studios
(3)In hazardous (classified) locations except where permitted in
a. 501.4(B), Exception
b. 502.4(B), Exception No. 1
c. 504.20
(4)Where exposed to corrosive fumes or vapors
(5) In storage battery rooms
(6) In hoistways, or on elevators or escalators, except where permitted in 620.21
(7) In commercial garages where prohibited in 511.4 and 511.7

Now keep in mind that the NEC is a minimum set of electrical standards, each town, city, county or state may modify these standards to be more strict. I have worked in several areas where Type AC cable is not allowed period. You should check with your local building codes department.

You can buy them at any home improvement centers. Those are cables where inner cables (actual wires) are protected by a tube made by strips of steel made into a tube. They are crush resistant and puncture resistant.

Keep in mind, you will need a cutter and a specially made coupler to join them into a junction box.

armoured cable, commonly called bx or ac cable or mc cable, is a metal clad cable.basicly it is similar to romex but with a metal jacket rather than plastic like romex. it is NOT crush or puncture resistant.mc cable has an aluminum outer jacket where bx cable has a steel outer jacket. you can find mc cable at home depot or similar

what type, if it is being used for household current, you should check local code laws to make sure you can use it in longer lenghts then six foot. I wouldnt run any longer lengths then that because if you need to change or add a wire in the future, it is a real pain.
