Throwing money at the problem is typically the least successful solution in most cases. The money or food would just be diverted by the corrupt governments. This is a complicated issue that many of the world leaders are pretty perplexed on how to deal with. I commend Bono's attempt, and when we figure out a way to get the resources to those that really need it, then asking for the 10% donation by the wealthy would be a beneficial act. Right now it would only strengthen the wrong people.

In terms of time and effort I think it would add up to more than that.. Don't you think instead of putting all the time into it as he does Bono could be writing songs and making CD's to add to his wealth. You sound just like a true Bushie with the whole "if you want to pay more taxes you can" thing. 10% of his wealth won't do much, but if you get 100 million people to donate a little bit of theirs, it'll make far more a differance.

I do believe that some, like bono, do. A whole lot of very wealthy people donate to do that or to other causes. I'm almost certain though that bono does. He is doing a huge campaign though to force various governments from the world to contribute.

Many already do. That's not the point.

The point is that YOU so resent being asked to address a reality of the social condition. Why do you resent the issue even being raised? Do you not agree that there IS poverty? Do you not feel that it can be alleviated? Do you not think that it even should be alleviated?

Instead of using someone else's wealth as an excuse for you to do nothing, why don't you think about doing SOMETHING - even if that something is just to offer a CONSTRUCTIVE suggestion about how to alleviate poverty.

What a bunch of whiners you all are, those of you who think that it's everyone for themselves and God against all. Try thinking of a good reason for you to be on this earth.

I think he has donated more than that!

I usually don't like it when musicians and actors get involved with things like this, but Bono has been one of the few that has put his money where his mouth is.The problem is getting the money and food to the right people. Not to the dictators and war lords.

Most poverty in this world is not caused by a lack of money but rather corruption and theft in the government. No amount of money being thrown at the problem is going to resolve it. Look at Africa. There are plenty of natural resources there and the countries are wealthy. The corrupt leaders steal the money and leave the people to die.

Bono and a lot of celebrities donate millions of dollars, but it's not only up to them to help the world. It would be nice if other citizens cared too.

How many poor people are there in the world? How much money does he have? Even if he gives 8/10 of his wealth, will it fulfill the world's need? Do the math!

Many of them do give a huge amount to charity, but just don't make a fuss about it. Bono certainly gives a lot of money, and his time are uses his reputation and fame to get messages across.

Some of them do...Oprah. Well, she's not really a musician. I'm sure they've tried, but money doesn't really help. Remember the Great Depression? Woah! Am I talking about the right thing? I need to go take my meds.
