Go in with the facts of why you deserve the raise. Show your boss exactly what you do and what you bring in monetarily to the company.

Whenever an employee asks for a raise, I show them what I pay them v. what I think they bring into the company. If they can prove they're bringing in more, or saving me money in another area, I've always given the raise.

Conversely, those who just ask, or whine that they're not making enough without proving otherwise have never received one, or lasted very long.

Make a bullet pointed list (Top 10) of why you deserve it. Be prepared to back up each point. Set aside some time with your boss to talk about "advancement". This way they know the general subject matter and aren't blind sided by your request. Then be sure you are asking for a raise/promotion rather than demanding it. Come out of the gate with what you would like and why. If your boss interjects then go with the flow. You probably won't cover all 10 items on your list so be sure to cover enough of a variety to give them a well rounded view. Be sure to do a next day follow up with a "thank you" for his/her time, guidance & consideration.

Note, if your direct boss doesn't make these type of desisions the go up one level but let you direct boss know what you are doing. Good luck!
