Really depends how artistic you are - are you good with music or poetry as I think that would be a really interesting way to go! What about taking a famous novel like something by Jane Austen & making a romantic poem up? Alternatively why not take a really famous news report like when Mad Cow Disease first started occuring and write a diary for a doctor, sufferer or even a cow's point of view? Or maybe write a diary of a serial killer based upon a news report of their crimes? Really you could do anything that interests you! Good luck!!

Can you turn a novel into a diary? Well, a few diary entries? Get something you enjoy. Your avatar suggests you are female, so I'd suggest considering a romance novel. Even if you don't like them, they often tell, in detail, the woman's feeling as she goes along, and such stories are very easily converted into diary entries. Especially if you say that she has an online diary, she can sometimes have two entries or so in a day, for those exciting days.
That novel can also be turned into a newspaper article about Mr and Mrs Recently Married, telling how they met. You wouldn't have to concentrate as much on feelings, then, aside from "reporting" the occassional adoring look, and when she says, "that's when I knew I loved him", or something like that.
That seems to be the easiest choice for me, anyway. Can you watch a movie and take notes, to turn it into diary entries or a newspaper article? I can't compose poems or songs at all, but if you can, a song or poem about a movie plot sounds good too.
If you're looking for suggests on your starting medium, I can only say go for what you like. Choose your favorite movie, novel, etc. Or choose your favorite author/actor, and then choose the book/movie that you think fits them best; that's not always the same thing as your favorite book/movie.

Try going for a Shakespeare play. Sounds to me like Hamlet would be a good one to turn into a newspaper article. All those juicy facts(cheating, lying, backstabbing (literally). It also may be good for a song. To help you speed things along a bit, you may want to invest in a quick notes book. You'll get all the main ideas so you can get straight to the point. Good Luck.

This is way out there but how about taking a the "Declaration of Independence" and changing it to something like a "Variety Magazine" article. or maybe into a VCR user's guide.
You could go further out and turn a famous speech into a screenplay for a broadway musical.
