A proxy server is a computer that offers a computer network service to allow clients to make indirect network connections to other network services. A client connects to the proxy server, then requests a connection, file, or other resource available on a different server. The proxy provides the resource either by connecting to the specified server or by serving it from a cache. In some cases, the proxy may alter the client's request or the server's response for various purposes.

I think you meant "IP Address" (An ISP is the Internet Service Provider - the company that provides your connection to the Internet, such as AOL, COx, etc)

An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique number that devices use in order to identify and communicate with each other on a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard (IP). Any participating network device — including routers, computers, time-servers, printers, internet fax machines, and some telephones — must have its own unique address.

An IP address can also be thought of as the equivalent of a street address or a phone number (compare: VOIP) for a computer or other network device on the internet. Just as each street address and phone number uniquely identifies a building or telephone, an IP address can uniquely identify a specific computer or other network device on a network.

An IP address can appear to be shared by multiple client devices either because they are part of a shared hosting web server environment or because a proxy server (e.g. an ISP or anonymizer service) acts as an intermediary agent on behalf of its customers, in which case the real originating IP addresses might be hidden from the server receiving a request. The analogy to telephone systems would be the use of predial numbers (proxy) and extensions (shared).

Didn't know if you meant IP Address as opposed to ISP (defined above).

An IP address is essentially the address of your computer on the internet. In order to talk with any other computer on the internet, you have to have an address. The IP address, is normally provided by your ISP via a protocol called DHCP.

What is your IP address? OPen a command prompt and run the following command: ipconfig /all

All the info you need should be there.

As for proxy, it is a machine or piece of software that is used to represent you when you request web pages or other internet services. Instead of your machine asking, the proxy asks for you. It can also cache web pages to make your web surfing faster--provided the pages you want aren't updated all the time.

A proxy server goes out to the internet on behalf of your system. Its good for caching things to speed up. If you and I were on the same network and you request a page from CNN, the proxy server would go get that page and cache it and when I requested the same page later, it would only have to go out to CNN for recent changes there by saving time and bandwidth.

The ISP address is whoever provides you with internet servce. They likely don't have a single address, but hundreds or thousands. Its more likely the ISP domain that would be interesting, such as verizon.net or aol.com

Cox can see the site visitors to and from the proxy, with the intention to truly tell in case your site visitors is going by potential of a proxy. yet what they received't be in a position to ascertain is the content of the site visitors itself. as an celebration, once you've an SSL or TLS connection with the proxy, then they don't have any way of (legally) viewing the content and therefore no way of understanding if the site visitors is an unlawful receive. (except you're dumb adequate to be internet hosting the proxy your self including your Cox account.) except you're already lower than analyze. Then regulation enforcement can legally M-I-M your connection to the proxy, seize the certificate, and snoop the site visitors because your top to privateness is forfeit contained in the number of info. (i should be incorrect about that, yet I were given it from a cop so i'm sticking to it.) they could or received't deliver a caution counting on what type of mood they're in, yet they do no longer ought to. if you're in violation of your contract with them (that you virtually actual are) they could do some thing they pick.

Proxy is a "bounce" machine. Your system talks to the Internet through it. Many machines can "talk" through it.

ISP= internet service provider (it's the company you pay for access to the Internet)
