Communism works just fine until the hard workers realize that they're getting screwed, and getting the same pay and benefits as those who don't do any work.

The major problem with either communism or socialism is that if the government tells you were to work, what to eat, and where to live you will not work as hard. Take a look at what happened in East Germany, they were a lot poorer while Russia was controlling them than they were before or after. Take a look at what is happening with the government ran school system in the US, it is turning out barely educated people that have to spend at least the first year of college getting up to par to take college level courses. The free market is best for everyone. If we had less governmental control the world would be better. We still need laws to protect people, but not as sever as they are in most countries including the US.

Communism removes all rights, freedoms, and motivations from the people. You have no right to think what you want, do what you want, choose your profession, or anything else. You have no right to the money you earn at your job.
Communism stagnates a country. There is no innovation or improvement because there's no point to it. Why would you invent something that could improve life if you got nothing for it and the leaders just snatched it from you and didn't make it widely available for the people?
Communism comes down to complete sacrifice by the people to the benefit of the country's few leaders at the top. Why would anyone want to live like that? What is the point of being a human being if you're not entitled to free thought or free action?

The concept of Communism looked good on paper and according to everything logic tells you, it works. But the problem the countries who used it and failed (China and Russia) had was the fact they didn't have enough money to get around AND keep the government stable. North Korea made it this far only on the source of sympathetic nations giving them money, which is now getting cut off due to sanctions blocked by the U.N. Cuba is making it stabley due to the facts that: Their climate is much more mild compared to Russia and China so comfort isn't hard to reach, they make much more money, they have a larger army, and the bonus that their dictator is finally lightening up a bit.
Over all, communism would have worked on paper but resources kept it useless and unstable.

The primary problem is that given the fact that the human species is still relatively primitive, any notion of masses of people precluding their own opportunities for advancement for the sake of the well being of others is incomprehensible. Merely take a look at the US and wherein it isn't even considered a humanistic right to acquire basic medical care, even for children. We are still unwilling to dish out more of our earnings for the sake of others, and primarily in the form of higher taxes in order to pay for such things as free healthcare, free secondary education, free transportation among other things. Our ability to survive is still based on the primitive notion of competition, and wherein such a notion is akin to two cavemen fighting over a bone. We humans still will not lift a finger unless we have some sort of incentive to do so, which of course is attributable to our individualistic nature. But beyond this, just as there is greed and corruption prevalent within the free market free wheelers and the politicians they support within our so-called democracy, one cannot adequately ensure such corruption would not be present within a state controlled economy. Lastly, most people will never relinquish their ability to consume so apathetically.

Greed. All humans are greedy as hell. Even those who do not act on their greed still have the desire to fill their bellies and pockets all day long. Nobody ever willingly shares everything they have. It is our nature.
The myth of communism is that if everybody just shares, that is, denies their nature, that magically all the poor people will be okay and nobody will be poor anymore. This is the reason communism will never go away, despite its endless stream of proven failures (USSR, Poland, East Germany, etc.) and the endless stream of capitalist successes (Japan, US, UK, modern Germany) In this way communism is like religion. It is much easier to believe that Jesus will come and magically make everything better if you just believe than to actually work hard at improving things. So communism also stays alive, like religion, despite the fact that scientifically it is impossible and wastes resources and time.
If poor people really want to stop being poor they need to get off their asses and do something about it other than demanding that the rich just give them their money.

Nothing wrong with communism. It's just the practice. True communism has never been practiced. Stalin and Lenin deviated the whole spirit of communism. True communism will create a heavenly life in the world, but it's impossible. Greed and hubris control human mind. It'll never work. So, there goes Stalin and Lenin.

Ever use Check Spelling tab?
My wife is from Ukraine (part of the old Soviet Union) and I've asked her about communism. She told me there is no comparison between the life and freedoms we have in this country. Here your life is what you make of it, there it was what the government made of it. We should be very proud of our country even though our politicians sometimes let us down. The only way this country will survive is for everyone to get involved and vote the corrupt politicians out. VOTE !

IT DOESN'T WORK----when you take all the output of a system--pool it into a lump entity and then distribute it evenly--you have this major problem of the incentives to excel dying out---the pyschology is---when people that are killing themselves to produce excellence are getting no more than the people that are just cruising through---sooner or later the hardest workers and the ones that are the best producers decide to slack off and play the no more extras from me game---productivity drops and there is less and less as more and more do less and less and the system is doomed to failure

everything
It's based on the premise the human nature will change. It doesn't work. It has very far-reaching demands on all aspects of human activity that make it incompatible with any tolerance of dissent. What it leads to is totalitarianism, oppression and misery. It's also intrinsically imperialistic and threatens the safety & well-being of every human being. In short, it sucks.

It sounds great in theory, but the things that make it practically unworkable is the fact that it would require selfless politicians (yea, that'll happen), and lack of productivity and quality control from the work force because of the lack of profit motive for the workers and farmers. Essentially everything is owned and operated by the government....and have you ever heard the term "good enough for government work"?
