The best names are ones that are unique. By accessing the Social Security Administation's website www.ssa.gov, you can find out what names are most and least popular for any year dating back to the late 1800's.

It is also nice to name a child after a person whose life you would like the child to emmulate. People such as saints, noble prize winners, and famous activists make great name sakes.

If all else fails, simply making up a name might be fun. Form and acronym for example from words you like, or simply rearrange letters untill you happen upon and interesting combination.

To simply answer your question however, my favorite names which I believe are good for babies, are ones that are traditional but pretty. Therese for a girl, and Joseph for a boy. Good luck.

I've got a pretty big family so I can suggest a few names to you that have been used in my family.

My kids' names are: James Timmothy (Tim), Douglas Jackson (Dougie), Katherine Kelsey (Katie), Markus Paul (Mark), and Mattias Petr (Matt). We have a baby due in October and if she's a girl her name will be Samantha Lillian and if he's a boy, his name will be either Cliff Ellis, Cliff Lucas, Cliff William, Dylan Ellis, or John Ellis.

My brothers' names are Joshua Alan, Justin Samuel (Sammy), James Scott (Jimmy), and Elliott William. My sister's name is Emily and her middle name is our mum's last name so I'm not going to put it down here.

A really good site to look through names for babies is http://www.behindthename.com/ . There you can find hundreds if not thousands of names by language, meaning, letters, pretty much anything really. You can also join up for free and create polls to see what other people think, vote on polls other people put up, and use the message boards.

Nine years ago we had our first baby, a daughter Allison Marie. I always felt like she was a girl and didn't give much thought to a boy's name. This past year we found out we were pregnant! I was shocked lol. We found out it was a boy and had a terrible time finding a boy's name but finially decided on Trey Robert and now I just adore his name. Had it been a girl we would have picked Cadence Renee and called her Cadi.

It really depends on what is important to you in terms of naming your baby. I always believed in giving my children first names that couldn't be mispronounced, but also couldn't be shortened. That was important to me because I didn't want other people giving them nicknames, like I loved the name Nicholas but didn't want Nick. I reserve the middle name for a family name, preferably one that has double meaning. My daughter's middle name is my husband's Godmother's name as well as my Mother in law's best friend's name.
