I live on 1.25 acres and am getting new neighbors soon (new construction). Everyone is spaced out in my neighborhood but my new neighbor built there house so far back that the front door and drive looks out to my backyard and pool. I think they will be great neighbors yet I moved to a country-like setting for the privacy. I need plants that can go up now for a screen. I live in zone 8. Evergreens are my preference for year round screening. I've talked to a few different landscapers but none have given me a good plan for immediate coverage. Nurseries around here (Dallas/Ft. Worth) dont seem to have evergreens large enough. Any ideas? Are there specialty nurseries I should be looking at?We CANNOT have wooden fences in my neighborhood-only wrought iron or chain link.

Immediate coverage will be impossible unless you are super-rich!

Texas does have it's limitations for evergreens, mainly because of the soil ph and the limestone shelf in your area.

If you want quick coverage, i agree with the other posters that mention bamboo. Bamboo can be very beautiful & does end to gro fast.

Contact your county extension agent for sugestions. They have a staff of master gardeners that should be able to help.

If you choose a running type of bamboo ,probably the fastest spreading type, I would recommend a buried concrete wall at least to 2 ft deep (or to the limestone shelf) encircling your planting. Running bamboo can be quite invasive & its a b*tch to control it without a boundry.

And for the person who says Texas doesn't have large trees, well that depends on the part of Texas. Texas is a very large state & has several different ecosystems, each with different size trees & shrubs. Saying Texas doesn't have large trees is like saying Vermont doesn't have good maple syrup.

actual, there are many of transformations between the sims 2 and the sims 3. the feel of the products, environment and sims is plenty smoother and somewhat extra distinct. The sims in the sims 3 have particular personality characteristics, even as the sims in the sims 2 do not. The sims in the sims 3 are not as needy (which ability they don't ought to bypass to the bathroom each and every 2 seconds lol) The aspire to a lot extra issues. also, in the sims 3 the sims can wander about the community really than merely being stuck on one lot. you also are waiting to modify sims a lot a lot less demanding. the different sims in the neighbourhood will age regardless when you're taking section in with them or not. they have autos, too. although, there are not any pets, holidays, agencies, residences, and so on in the sims 3, so fairly its an fullyyt different recreation than the sims 2.

Bamboo is very fast growing and surprisingly many types grow as far north as Zone 6. May grow further north, not sure. Make sure you buy 'clumping bamboo' so it doesn't take over your whole yard... and the neighbor's. If you buy the non clumping variety make sure you plant it in the ground but in huge pots so it can't spread or put old slate down to keep the runners from spreading along the ground and becoming invasive. Can grow to 20'-30' in a year!

Scotch pine grows fast but break easily in winds and don't grow nearly so fast as bamboo.

I like Bamboo. Quick growing but might need quite a bit of water to keep it alive in that dry heat.
