Either the weights you are using are too heavy, or you are overextending your arms and causing the weights to stress your elbows. Watch your form, and make sure you use the appropriate amount of weight.

Unfortunately, you most likely are hyperextending your elbows during the exercise. There are many factors to consider when beginning resistance training. Poor form and execution is the quickest way to injury. Typically, I recommend that people start with VERY light weights and develop form and technique, adequately rest the muscle groups exerted then increase the weight over time. Also, you should always develop routines that work the major muscle groups of the entire body, not just your arms.

Either they are a tad too heavy or you are lifting wrong. Ask the trainer to show you how to use them properly. You can also probably find some pictures that can help illustrate good form on the Internet.

Each exercise has its own correct form and if you do it wrong, you can hurt yourself and reduce the effacy of the exercise.

Maybe you are using them incorrectly or the weights are too heavy to begin with. It could just be that you are using muscles you don't normally use but I would suggest you stop using them for now & get advice at your local gym from a professional instructor just so that you don't do yourself any harm!

your doing to many reps, using to much weight, or both. next time use a little less weight and don't do as many reps and see if that doesn't help.
