i know about steve vai and joe satriani put out a cd last year but u don't hear anything new from new people

These are not new artists, but if you have not heard their music and like guitar instrumentals, you should definitely check them out. Craig Chiquico's Acoustic Planet CD, Larry Carleton's Collection I and II. Pat Metheny, Paco Lucia, Al Dimeola, and Jeff Beck are all quality. Typically you will find Beck in rock sections of music stores, Chiquico in New Age and the rest in Jazz. Satriani put out a CD with Vai and Eric Johnson in which they each play three of their own songs and then play three together under the name G3. I share your frustration in that most all of the music I possess is guitar instrumental and I am constantly on the look out for new quality in this genre. Unfortunately, we are in a minority. Most people do not want to listen to music without vocals.

I think it is because number of people who like guitar solos or instrumentals is small.
They prefer songs. Most of the fans are people who understand music or can play guitar. And also many guitar maniacs might not know Joe satriani.
Therefore, it is not so popular.
That's only my opinion and can be wrong.

i concur. new stuff bores me. i love satriani and vai. but i'm also i big fan of stuff like hendrix, stevie ray vaughan, the allman brothers band. also i recommend, if you don't already have it, kill 'em all by metallica. their first album and its fast and full of great solos.
