After receiving my change from a cashier, I noticed that one of my nickels was made in 1954. I am inexperienced with the value of old coins and I would appreciate it if anyone could give me further information.

1954 is $1.00 in uncirculated grade.
1954D is $0.60 in uncirculated grade.
1954S is $0.75 in uncirculated grade.

The mintmark D or S is on the reverse next to the building to the right.

It is a common coin and but some 1954S coins have an error making it worth $25.00

it depends on the condition of the coin. if there is a lot of wear on it, it's value isn't as great as one that has no wear. the best places to check for wear are around the edges, the lettering, and any details in the images on front and back. you can check it in "The Red Book" ( a coin collector's guide) or take it to a local coin dealer to get the correct value.
