shouldn't be points in that motor - points went away in 1974 - could be a motor swap or distributor swap - my ancient memory bank says .017 or about the thickness of a matchbook cover.

88's dont have points to set, but if your engine has been replaced with an old one, it goes like this...use a dwell meter after the mechanical measurements (correctly noted in previous answers) are made. Dwell should be at 30 degrees, and must be set while it is running using a small allen wrench through the side of the distributor cap ( the little metal "window" allows access). Set timing at 8 to 10 degrees before tdc after setting dwell. Good luck!

I agree with the previous answer. Should be about the thickness of a match book cover or around .018 thousandths. Spark plugs gap around .035 thousandths. Good Luck.

There are no points in that engine unless someone installed a different distributor.

If so the gap is 16---18
