Best antivirus software. This year, reviews give the edge to McAfee VirusScan 2006 over the other industry leader, Norton Anti-Virus.
Experts say McAfee has a more robust spyware scanner, which detects spyware and adware before it is downloaded to your computer. Virus definitions are updated daily for real-time scanning of incoming and outgoing e-mail, instant-messaging traffic and attachments.
McAfee especially watches for suspicious e-mail activity, such as too many e-mails sent at once. Although reviews say McAfee beats the current crop of antivirus software, testers complain that McAfee's interface is cluttered with promotions for other McAfee products. Deep system scans are accurate but slow, so it's best to schedule full scans during idle computer time. Note that if you use America Online, you can download McAfee VirusScan for free from AOL.

all anti-viruses have their own unique properties,so there arnt any really good ones ,they are all good
norton anti-virus is good, but drains system resources, and slows start up times, were as macafee can have problems regarding service pack 2
sometimes a free route is often the best, such as avg or avast,i have used both of these and they come highly recommended, ecspecially avast as its interface is easy to use,and has regular updates
in my opinion the best anti-virus you have to pay for is f-secure avalible from http://www.f-secure.com/
it has a built in virus, spyware, and rootkit scanners and also informs you on all the latest security news so you can be more vigilant, but all the viruses it mentions are blocked by the defenition database
so the top 3 anti-virus i would say would be
1) f-secure 2006 anti-virus
2) avast anti-virus free edition
3)bit defender 2006
good luck

AVG at grisoft.com is what the major IPs use.

AVG is what I recommend, if you really must run the virus magnet, spybot attractor, spyware repository, and adware opportunity that is Microsoft, multiple convicted multi-continental felon thief!

But, I prefer to run what Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com (both on 15,000 Linux servers!), the Fortune 500 corporations, Google.com, the NYSE, Burger King, Scotland Yard, the FBI, Hollywood (all movies since Titanic 1997!), and 165 world governments use, GNU/Linux, which is hacker free, virus proof, and comes with up to 5,000 games, apps....

go to www.download.com and click on security, loads of free spy-ware and virus stuff on there. ad-aware is fab for spy-ware but doesn't kill viruses.

your Internet provider should have a free virus checker with updates. if you can't find it ring them and they will talk you through it.

strongly recommend ad-aware for spy-ware, i run it every day before i shut down my pc. you'll be surprised how many sites add spy-ware to yr computer without your knowledge. ad-aware removes it all for free.
good luck x
