What is a Narwhal?
A Narwhal is a type of a whale with some very unique characteristics. The male of the species has a left tooth that continues to grow into a beautiful tusk much like that of the mythical Unicorn. The narwhal's closest "cousin" is the beluga also known as the "white whale".

It's a type of whale. It has one large tooth, or "tusk" sticking out of the top of it's head that twisted into a compact spiral, like the kind you see in pictures of unicorns.

Most scholars think that it was the trade in narwhal tusks that caused the legend of the unicorn. People would see the horn, and some of them would use it as medicine and conincidentally get better. They imagined that eating the powdered horn made them better, and wanted more of it.

But whales are hard to catch. They are waay bigger than fish, so the traders would tell stories about a fantastic beast called a unicorn that could only be captured by a virgin. When the local lord's daughter failed to capture the imaginary animal, the lord was too ashamed to admit that his daughter wasn't a virgin, so left the traders alone.
