I have the same question too.
Lets face it, majority of Americans fail to understand other people history, background, lifestyle, idea, vision and culture (from my observation Americans when they go abroad, media and etc). Let alone to impose/ boost democracy to Iraqis and the rest of the World.
While Iraq has its own issues to deal with like civil war, military- style former regime, different idelogy, it makes harder for anyone to establish democracy.
What democracy means to USA and the Administration is free of any threats to American public ( I understand the need to protect the nation/people), to maintain status quo and oil industry. Same sex marriage issues, immigration, racism and poverty remain unsolved.
Democracy at the end remains absurb and doesnt make sense!

Obviously you have a distorted view of America.
America is a very large place and you will run into folks with twisted values everywhere you go. Racism and nationalism exist throughout the world. America does it's best to minimize the impact of those "idiots" and keep them in check.
Equal pay for equal work. Voting rights. Everyone in America has them. Everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Democracy is about empowering the people to live the way they want to live as a group. It's not a perfect system, but it's the best thing around at the moment.
America is suited to the task, but the Iraqi people have to be willing to embrace it. They've lived under a different set of rules for a long time and it will take a lot of time to change the mentailty in the region. Hard line religion and democracy do not mix well and it will be difficult at best.

It depends on where you are siting when you ask that question if you are a part of the majority in America and has never been discriminated against any day in your life you might see the minorities as a protected species as you call them. It is about the principals this country was founded on.It was founded on the Principal of everyone being free not just the majority and if left to its on rules some of the majority will take away those freedoms from the minorities, check your history books. No one here except the native Americans are natural to America so we are all foreign to this land.
When the Iraqi people finish growing and jocking for leadership they will find a common ground. Every new country goes thru growing pains just as America did with its revolutionary and civil war.

I personally think people of colored people aren't treated so bad. Yes when there was slavery in this country they were treated wrong. The people of color who get out and work hard have just as many breaks as anyone. I am so tired of hearing the race card being used to make white people feel bad. I've never owned a slave and owe no apology for what happened to their ancestors. If you're too lazy to work (white or colored) you should not be given ANY special treatment in this country.

People of color (African American, Latino , etc.) in the are the most protected specie in the world....The White Congress does everything possible to take from citizens who work for a living and give it to people that don't.
and by the way, US is a Republic not a Democracy...ie the pledge.

Yes of course they can. Whether or not they do or when is a separate question. Your perception of racism in America is highly biased and is no basis for a connection with Iraq. The question is whether the Iraqi people want to make their government and country work and the intense ethnic divisions they have.

It took 3 months to write a Constitution for Japan after World War 2
We have been messing with Iraq for 1 4 years and still no working government. To me that means our government does not want Iraq to be self ruling.

A PERFECT Liberal question. That sums up everything that is wrong with America. Liberals that have "White Guilt" about everything we do.
Liberals think we do not deserve the prosperity we have because of it. We feel that we have to water down our military so we don't defeat the enemy "too-badly", it all stems from your question. They believe America deserves to be attacked, because we deserve it.
Conservatives and Republicans do NOT feel this way, and that is why they are winning elections. They have something positive to run on, and an actual plan.

I am sorry you are so racist but black people have all and equal rights in our nation, it is only some of those who wish to keep thier power by teaching hate that try to make victims of black people. The way we treat all minorities should be the light to show how things can work. The way some black leaders act is what is the true disgrace.

YES, because color people here had a purpose in life, and they didn`t care how much they had to suffer they were true to their identity. But Iraqis, they don`t have no true identity, they are helping America kill other iraqis, isn`t it the kind of Democracy we are used to here.
