When people realize that it takes effort on a daily basis, by every citizen, to ensure that the country runs at its best.

It is one thing to vote politicans to power, but a whole other ballgame to stay on top of things and ensure that the highest ideals of what we stand for are respected and reflected in every single thing we do.

Democracy is an experiment on the way to understanding what might make the human race sustain itself with some degree of dignity - it is by no means perfect. IT TAKES WORK TO MAKE THIS WORK - ask the Indians. With over 30 national parties and coalition governments all the time, they seem to be ahead in this experiment.

America is NOT a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. Study your history. What is the second phrase of the Pledge of Allegiance? ... and to the republic for which it stands. What was the battle song of the Union forces? The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Nobody in their right mind wants a democracy. A lynch mob is a democracy. In a democracy, all voters would vote on every issue and the majority would rule. This would keep us in the voting booth 3 days a week - every week. And the people who were out-voted would lose their representation. Granted, our representatives don't always vote the way we might like, but it's still the best system in history.

My question is why? Democracy is doomed to fail, just as any other government is.Not enough americians know that. Bush himself is trying to bring democracy to countries that can't support it nearly as well as we could. Its not the perfect form of government, in fact, its far from it. Athens was democratic. In fact, it was more democractic then we were, since it was a direct democracy. Its democracy ended and everyone hated democracy at its end. I forget which famous greek philosopher (I think plato?) but one of them wrote about how all democracies are doomed to become tyrannies.

With that aside, when are we gonna restore it? Democracy is only a good form of government if theres a huge majority that always votes together and everyone votes and cares. That way, it truly is catering to a large majority of its people. If america can restore that, then we will restore democracy. But I highly highly doubt that will ever happen.

Americans will have democracy only when it has gotten rid of all the Nazis in the White house and in Congress. When we purge the Skull and Bones boys and execute them all like they executed the 3000 people in the Twin Towers.A Revolution is what is needed and it is needed right now before these morons take any more of your rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution.Whatever happened to "By the people,For the people"?

When they stop being so lazy and apathetic.

Of course, that's not considering the fact that we were never suppposed to be a democracy. We were intended to be a republic. The founding fathers loathed the democratic form of government.

Check it out.

very good question..seems we are running under a dictator, and a not very bright one, at that. My question is, where are all the student riots? Where are the Democrats...amazingly silent in all this. We are at a crisis in our politics, our civil liberties are being ripped from us one by one, under the guise of "National Security." We have failed on all fronts with this Administration, yet no one is screaming. I find it hard to believe that Clinton was all but crucified for a BJ in the office, yet Bush ambles and trips down his path of lunacy without a word from anyone. I am very ashamed of Americans and where we are headed. Anyone who votes Republican anything in the next election surely deserves all they are getting. Unfortunately, the voters don't open their eyes long enough to see that it is only the rich who benefit from Republican administrations. These politicians are very good at spin, and the American public has become very dumb to fall for it over and over.

When we all vote Dem. in Nov 06 / 08. It's a start. If BushCo does'nt get us killed before then. People should read "1984". But I'm afraid too many people will be too stupid / ignorant to understand it. But that's where we're already headed. There's already a zillion video cameras all over the place.
