The so-called dooms-day of human race is a myth. We have seen many Stephen Hawkings come and go, and there have been many such dire predictions of 'dooms-day' in the past. Nothing will ever be coming to an end; an end will create its own beginning and the world as we know and see today will continue to exist and flourish in a manner befitting the inhabitants at a given point in time! So, with all respects to Stephen Hawking, his theory of 'dooms-day' is a myth and it is not going to work!!

It's the Carl Sagan syndrome.... which is an extension of the Einstein syndrome. Basically, if the ignorant masses decide that so-and-so is a genius then anything they say is given great weight-- even if it is outside their field of expertise.

Come to think of it, it's no different than thinking that Bono knows all about poverty or Bill Gates knows all about African AIDS.

Great Question! I was wondering the same thing when I read articles describing his thoughts. I'm quite disappointed. At any time in human history there is a faction whom believes that we are on a course to destruction. No difference here, we overestimate (or underestimate) ourselves.

Probably because he worried global warming could cause the Earth to end up like Venus when he was in China recently. Probably not because of his question here. Nice (not!) to see that some people are so sure global warming is wrong they lower their opinion of people they used to repect, rather than open their mind about the theory.

invented reasons of doom, I think not. Long overdue look at the way things are.

Global warming, indifference socially, greed got us caught in a downhill spiral.

He's a bryt guy and i love to read his stuff -- he's also honest and that is pretty rare among people that become celebrities -- also he's a thinker, and VERY few people think -- but almost all types that become celebrated have wacko ideas occasionally -- hope he gets back on track tho.

The human race IS doomed, UNLESS we all start opening up our minds.

Because his genius is recognized worldwide and he is highly respected among his peers, which is very difficult in this 'dig up dirt' world. I say embrace him, listen to him, debate him and if you like what he says , tell the world. If you find someone else who can be respected like this , tell them too....
