Too much stuff starting up with the PC (bloatware)

Uninstall the software you don't need.

START > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS

Then

Go to

www.filehippo.com

Download

AdAware
Spybot

Run both of those

Have a nerd friend do this

START then RUN

in the box type MSCONFIG then hit OK

Go to startup

and uncheck the unneeded items

Chances are, you purchased your computer from one of the big companies like Dell. Those sellers load your new PC choc-full of a bunch of garbage you don't need, because the respective software companies pay the Dells and HPs of the world a king's ransom to include it on there. Most of this software is trial versions of products that you most likely won't want to keep anyway. Uninstalling them by going to start->control panel->add/remove programs will greatly help you. If you want to get more advanced, click start->run, type in 'msconfig' (without the quotes) and hit enter. Click the startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't think you want or need. This will speed your boot time and make your machine much snappier overall.

I got a new Dell at work that had this problem. The problem was Norton Anti-Virus. Norton is total crap these days and halves the speed of your machine.

Uninstall Norton and any other software you don't need including all that online crap like AOL. Then defrag your hard disk.

If you need a virus killer a red shield will appear near your clock. It will tell you that you need a virus killer, it will offer you a page of recommendations. There is a good one you can download for free and comes with 12 months of free updates before you need to purchase a subscription.

you probably have too may applications set to run on startup. look at your startup menu in programs in the start menu and remove the stuff that you KNOW you dont need to turn on automatically(dont do anything to something you dont know anything about) and look at all the programs that run directyl on startup. if any of them you dont need then change the settings to remove the start automatically on windows.

and if you are using something like the vista inspirat or other destop enhancement packages, uninstall them if you prefer speed to appearance

(general remark : things are going to get interesting when vista comes out. most peoples computers will pbbly take ages to load aero... )

it probably has a bunch of software programs for signing up to aol and such that are installed at the factory, go to control panel>add remove programs and remove any of the programs you will never use, you can also check out whats happening on stratup by going to start>run> and typing msconfig , select the startup tab and uncheck anything you dont want

it's probably opening a lot of apps.
go to the start menu, and run and type in msconfig. click on the StartUp tab, and select only the programs you need.

This way, you don't have a lot of useless apps booting up, and windows should load faster for you.

I used to have this problem..I turned off the xp look and went for the 98...got rid of the mini toolbar(with all those quick access icons) and almost all the start up items that are completely unnecessary..turned my desktop background into something plain and default.. But i believe getting rid of all those items that automatically start up when my computer came on did the trick..

if you are using win xp it is one of the draw backs with it. i use to have to win 98 it booted 2 or 3 times faster.. winxp does a lot more checking before it boots all the way..

Who knows. There could be several areas to deal with. Maybe you should take to someone who can fix it, example Staples..
