I agree. I feel knowing how to speak English s/b one of the prerequisites to receiving social service benefits, driver's license and whatever other benefits there are available to Americans. People from other countries come here and learn how to work the system. If congress wants to do something to deter illegal immigs, they should start with the above.
Learning to speak other languages s/b mandatory in our school systems, because the way it's heading if u are not bilingual, you may find yourself in the unemployment line

When you say, help start a war somewhere that demonstrates the problem. Wars are spoken about like it's a game of chess or snakes and ladders. We should all be looking at ways to avoid war. The problem is that if a country does things different to the Americans or the Brits we all think it's our job to cross borders and sort it all out. We don't own the world, maybe it's time to stop poking our noses in everywhere. I'm talking about the Brits and the Americans, both as bad as each other. Europe is in a right old state at the moment, unemployment is through the roof, yet we preach our model of society to everybody else

This is a good question, but it was posed wrong. I am from Europe, came here 7 years ago and getting my citizenship in about 30 days. Why SOME people don't want to speak English is because USA let them do it, having all these thing's so convenient for Spanish people, especially. Why or why? If I can learn English, why can not they? And then when they form their own cities full of gangs and violence, we are asking our selves WHY? well, because your government let them.
when it comes to not respecting USA...You can not say that everyone is like that, but I agree that most people are. Some of them are just more in love with their home land, and some of them are plain hating this country. It is mostly people that came here in a way that forbids them to come back again if they leave USA and go to their country. They miss it and they love it, but they can not see it. That gives some rage to people.
Me personally, I love my homeland, and will never forget it. I respect the country I live in, pay my taxes, love some of the freedoms that are available here, but will complain about some of the policies just like you will too, as a born American.

What a load of crap. Every group of people who come to to the US follow the same pattern. The 1st generation speaks little or no English, 2nd because they have been to school are bi-lingual and by the 3rd generation the kids are almost assimilated with limited language skills for their grandparents native country.
The same has applied to Italians, Poles, Germans, Russians Greeks etc. And it applies to Mexicans which is who your vile peice of vitriol is aimed at.
No one complains about the Irish flags at the ST Paddy parades or the Isreali flags at the support Isreal rallies that are held on the anniversary of that nations founding. But for some reason you seem to have a case of the @$$ for Mexicans. wonder why that is?
Next time you type the word hypocrit hold up a mirror so you can see what one really looks like.

To get the best of both worlds. It's like getting a free chocolate bar, beacuse you got a sweet deal and didn't have to pay for it. If you don't catch my drift, then let me explain. People want to come here for some peace and quiet because of all the good things they heard about this country, thinking there's work and prosperity. You get here and you realize that there's more crime, less culture, and the government is hated worldwide. Crime goes unpunished, there's a trend for a lack of education, and alot of senseless partying. You get stuck with a poor job, and you can't go back to your home land because the kids will get held back in school back there. So you live here hating that you ever came in the first place. Does that make you american or canadian? Nope.

This is a very good question. I have often wonder why bother if you don't want to adapt to our customs.
It boggles my mind that some people think by making English in the United States the official language is racist. Why?
I'm not saying give up your customs/culture, just remember you are in the United States now, not Mexico or Iraq!

In a way, I can understand this. They want to come here for the job opportunities, education, etc. and yet they are loyal to the country of their birth. Most are sending home money to support family members that are in dire straits. Try to be more sympathetic, it's not easy for anyone these days.

That's easy. Because they know they can come here, make all the money they want, be who they want to be, do what they want to do and they are protected under AMERICAN laws and still hate American's and the American way of life. This is something that most of them cannot do in there country's.
