Why do some Arab Muslims become terrorists?

People all over the world, including those in the Middle East, become terrorists because they are often trapped in a crucible of socio-economic and political circumstances that affect young people and induce them to choose lifestyles that they wouldn't normally choose.

In the Middle East the proliferation of terrorism has largely been due to two factors. The first is the unresolved conflict between Israel and the Palestinian territories. Most people in the Middle East view the creation of Israel as a theft of the land that has been occupied by Palestinians for thousands of years. Therefore, many people have dedicated themselves to using any means necessary to destroy Israel as a state and implement the creation of a Palestinian state. This cause of terrorism is largely exacerbated by America's ongoing financial, and political support of Israel, which motivates terrorists to target not only Israeli interests but American interests.

The second large cause of terrorism especially against Americans is the presence of American troops in the Gulf region. American troops have been stationed in Saudi Arabia for many years. Many Muslims view this as an offense against Islam since Saudi Arabia is the location of the Muslim holy sites Mecca and Medina and non-Muslims are not allowed to be near these sites. The presense of Western troops has long been one of the stated reasons of Osama bin Ladin and another terrorists as to why they continue to perpetrate and or support terrorism.

Often the factors that I have descibed here are further exacerbated by tensions within individual countries, such as political condition, unemployment, etc. This can happen to people in any country at any time. This is why terrorism is not contained only in the Middle East but remains a global problem throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Also remember that while many prominent terrorists are Arab and Muslim, they are they exception, and not the rule to the race and religion they represent. There are a billion and a half, Muslims in the world and most of them abhor the violence committed in the name of their religion. Islam is a peaceful religion and it will be necessary for people from the Middle East as well as outsiders to end the problem of terrorism that plagues our planet.

It is religious fanaticism spurred on by conflict with Israel and the West. They are very frustrated with the US and other countries because they see us as the major supporter of Israel. We send Israel tons of aid and weapons. Their people are killed by the Israelis and so they blame us. On the other hand, they kill Israelis. Israel has a Parliamentary style gov't., and the radical Orthodox religious fanatics hold a disproportiante amount of power in it due to the nature of a Parliamentary system.
So, you have two groups of religious fanatics who both claim the same Holy Land, and the US primarily supports Israel. The Arabs can't beat Israel, and they can't let them alone either. So they resort to terrorism.
The Madrassas & poverty play a role in this as well, however, many of the terrorists we have seen are educated and not poor. Madrassas take in impoverished Muslim kids. The parents give their kids to them because they have no other economic choice. Then the kids are brainwashed with the ideas of Radical Islam and Jihad. But many educated and well-off Muslims are also brainwashed by the same ideas.
One thing that the US needs to understand is that the radical fundamentalist Muslims do not believe in the separation of Church and State like we do. They see it as an evil ! This is a fundamental difference that makes it very difficult to reach any sort of compromise.
Perhaps we should ALL be a little less fanatical about religions.

Well, Arab Muslim is only one of the ingredients. You have to throw in poverty and a total lack of education. Fed people with educations and jobs do not strap bombs to their backs.

If you don't have a future, why not give your life to a cause you percieve is great?

Muslims are proud people that hate foreigners, and the Muslims want them out by any means necessary, so they declared a Jihad when foreigners came to their land. That, and they also want 75 virgins when they go to heaven, because one of their beliefs is: when they die fighting in/during a Jihad, they automatically go to heaven, and they'll have 75 virgins waiting for them up there.

Poverty, brainwashing (i.e. lack of real education coupled with radical religious sermons), hopelessness and the Koran itself. The Koran is all things to all people; at times preaching peace and other times war and annihilation. Radical clerics take advantage of the "negative" quotations from the Koran to inspire the hopeless to commit atrocities (do you ever see one of the "leaders" killing himself?) Terrorists are pawns in the hands of power-hungry individuals who will try to keep the masses "in line" by forbidding all the "bad things" while they (the leaders) enjoy what they have forbidden others and laugh at the poor, uneducated dopes (e.g. royal families.)

To fight against what they perceive as an injustice when they have no other means to do so.

For example, some Palestinians resort to terrorism because they are helpless to do anything else to (protest) oppose Israel's atrocities against them.
