Im worried that people always seem to have better solutions to problems than I do. I know the answer would be to find my own niche. But what if I am never going to find that niche? What if this is "As good as it gets"? Should I leave now that I am well, ahead in the sense that, maybe no one except me knows how I am not the best? And is it really fulfilling to just "do your best" when you know that whatever you do, no matter how hard you work, your output will always be second best?

Pros for working with people smarter than you:
1) you learn from them
2) being around clever people makes you push your mind to new levels
3) you can discuss more interesting things than the weather at lunch break.
4) you don't have to explain basic information, concepts to those around you at work, they already know
5) they learn from you

Cons
1) you are expected to learn from those around you
2) you have to work hard at being good
3) you have to think of something more than the weather to discuss at lunch breaks
4) you may have to ask people to explain what is a basic concept or idea to them.
5) others will be watching you to learn from you

"It is not enough to simply do your best. Sometimes we must do what is required"

How do you figure that your output will only be "second best"??

Obviously they hired you, thinking that you are well qualified for your position...

Each person, is unique! Each brings to the job, thier own experiences, background and job worthiness that is unique only to themselves. That is why your employer hired you, so that you can contribute your own "brand" of ideas, whether they are "substantial" to you, they may be invaluable to your boss! You bring with you a new "perspective" that your boss hasnt heard before! It doesnt matter if its not "used" at this time, or if its ever used... Your boss has filed it away in his brain that you had an unusual idea, that can be built upon another day, or that you can be trusted to bring new ideas to the table, so that those who have "all the ideas" will get a new slant on a project, and maybe a new thinking will come out of the discussion group.

Never discount your value to a Company! A Company is measured by the diversity of thier employees and the different backgrounds and ideas that they have...

If Company A only wants to do things a certain way, and hires only "those" types of people, and Company B wants new and inventive ideas and hires different people from different perspectives and cultures, then they, Company B will be the more successful and thriving business...

You may not have the "degrees" that can be put upon the walls, but you have a degree in LIFE! That will always be invaluable to you and your Company...

Discuss this with your boss and I betcha he will be absolutely amazed that you are taking this approach!!!

I wish you well..

Jesse

It is better to work with people smarter than you. Just being around them stimulates you to come up higher even if it does seem like you pale in comparison to them and you feel somewhat inferior. We are all smarter than others in certain ways and dumber than others in certain ways.
