Except when others depend on you (i.e. children.) The human instinct to survive is there of course, but WHY do people press on when their life is SO miserable or they are so abused? Why don't more people commit suicide? Life is no picnic for millions of people on the planet.

Unfortunately, there are many people that have chose to commit suicide and their significant others are left to try to understand why! I sometimes people are used to struggling and living a life that is miserable. It depends on each individual and that's where the survival of the fittest comes into play! The strongest shall survive!

Good Q. The circumstances sometimes are not in our control. Suicide is prohibited bec we do not have a right to take what God has given out of his will (our birth and coming into this World). For some people poverty is a way of life...they seem to enjoy it. It is only when we look them like that and compare with our own standards do we draw the line of poverty. Believe you me, sometimes poor people are the most happiest persons on this World. Thatz bec their needs and desires are very limited. They may be abused, correct, but then itz a very fast world and normally we bench-mark people with what they 'have' (and not what they eat). For all life is no picnic. Most seem it to be a struggle. Whether poverty or not, if i change mi attitude towards life and replace 'struggle' with 'challenge' i will be more happy. Because in struggle I never know the end and in challenge I am mentally prepared to overcome everything, should i strengthen my resolve and determination. The instinct towards life and all its beautiful things never die even if you are poor by any standard. You mean poor people do not dream? They do. They have a right to and believe they do in their dreams. That is why they are determined to go on. And Life goes on. This is my view.

I think the answer maybe because one or a combination of these 3 reasons
1. They dont know better. This maybe the life thy have grown up with and simply expect nothing more for themselves
2. They dont think about their life situation or the misery they are surrounded by and just live on. If you dont think, maybe you wont realize how dark your life is.
3. People find happiness in small things. I know that even though there are tough times in my life, there are still small joys I look forward to and thats what keeps others going too??

people my be unhappy but it does not count for the human spirit to survive, some people need extra help in this world, most pyshohlist came from abusive backgrounds look were they are now. No one in this world has made it any where on there own with no help. People who were abused never ask to be abused at it leaves a life time of scares.

Because We were created to live forever with the full ability to enjoy life to the fulland that desire is instilled in all of us to want to live not to want to diebecause Jehovah Created us to live in happines forever on the earth and he lovingly prepared it just right for us to live on it ,in perfect harmony before he created us to live on the earth, but because of the greed and desire to be independent from God and to rule ourselves in our own way that has made our lives so miserable and horrendousconditions that we live with todaythat though has not thwarted God's purpose it just created a need for some adjustments to the plan to come into action!
After God removes wickedness and suffering very soon the earth will be transformed into a paradise, Then people will be able to live forever in perfect health and happiness.God's word fortels:"God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." (Revelation21:4). In that new world , even dead ones will be bought back to life to share in those blessings.

Not everyone have the same mentality. Some are used to it while others may put their hope on the children. Another reason is the just cannot leave thier loves one or family just like that.

Hope is all that is about, There is a saying that goes;"A hungry man with expectation, never dies of hunger"
Hope is in everything,it can make you to live longer or die earlier,as long as hope exists then long life and less misserable conditions will also never part from the expecting body.

Because it is the nature of humans to hope. Whether that hope is focused around a god or self, it drives us to continue on even in the most desperate circumstances, on the chance that the situation will improve.

Some people like being miserable, living paycheck to paycheck, being overweight, etc. They feel guilty if they have it good. Plus, people have a tremendous way of hoping things will get better even when they are at their worst.

The Bible tells us that God Judges Suicide as a Sin, along with mistreating our bodies. So people with religion and the love and trust in our God continue on no matter how bad their conditions my seem.
