what is the use of nitroethane in the conversion of aldehye to cyano. can u give the mechanism.?

Nitroethane supplies the Nitrogen atom for the cyano group. The Nitro group adds to the carbonyl carbon in a nucleophilic additon - elimination reaction like the aldol reaction.
