AMSOIL is the best that you can get and AMSOIL has the certified laboratory test results to prove it. Check out the AMSOIL white paper "A Study of Motorcycle Oils" here;

http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf

It compares AMSOIL to all other leading synthetics, including Mobil1, Royal Purple, Castrol, Golden Spectrum, Pennzoil and more and gives you the undeniable proof that AMSOIL gives the BEST protection. Sure it costs a LITTLE more ( not alot more ) than the others but, do you want "good" motor oil for your machine ? For "good" motor oil, you can go to WalMart or your local parts store but, if you want THE BEST .... with the proof and warranty to back it up, go here for AMSOIL.

http://www.firstandfinestsynthetics.com/

Once you use AMSOIL and experience "First hand" the improved performance, lower operating temperatures and increased MPG, you won't use anything else.

As for price, it really depends on the type and weight of oil you use and, how much oil it takes per oil change on your bike. AMSOIL motorcycle oil is formulated for use in engine, primary chaincase and transmission. ( My H-D takes a total of 5 quarts for each complete oil change ) A case of 10W40 or 20W50 ( 12 quarts ) is about $75.00. Your filters, again depends on the type of filter you use but AMSOIL has super-duty motorcycle filters available also. There's no charge or obligation to look up your oil and filter and see what all is available. Check it out.

Use any good quality 10/40. 20/50 if it's very hot where you are.

To keep it short, best quality oils have a higher "G" specification.

Look on the tin for at least a "G3". Some manufacturers don't even bother with it any more, then leave that on the shelves.

I pay about £5 for an oil change, (use G5 oil) but I get trade price oil and change it myself.
A friend paid £60 for an oil/filter change and the oil they used came from a big barrel with no specifications on it whatsoever.
Oil went black and very thin after 950 miles. So be careful who you use.

Call your local dealership, they can recommend the right stuf..I think Castrol makes a synthetic bike oil, you'll have to reference for yourself, though. If you've got the owner's manual, you can always check that...

I would use Royal Purple, the entire oil change should be no more than $35.00
