When it comes to the legal profession, it is less relevant whatt kind of law you practice than where you practice and how much experience you have. Take an environmental lawyer with about five years experience. Ar the lowest end of the salary spectrum, he works for a non-profit public organization, and makes anywhere between 30 and 40K max, depending where he lives. In the middle, you have federal government employees (often in the Washington DC area), they would make 60 to 90 K. At the top, and in high paying cities like NYC or San Francisco, they'd make 120 to 140K plus bonus. And it is not a matter of your grades where you are hired, these are all competitive places to get in. It is a personal choice.

This Site Might Help You.
RE:
How much do environmental lawyers make?
I already checked on salary.com, and couldn't even find the job title environmental lawyer. It had environmental engineers, environmental compliance specialists, and also regular lawyer I, lawyer II, lawyer III, etc.

I think you can go by the Lawyer lll salary. Every time some one wants to build on a piece of property, they have to file an Environmental Impact Report with the state; and, those reports are very expensive to produce. They have to notify all concerned citizens and groups, hold meeting with those who object. The attorneys who do the reports may charge standard hourly fees, but they have to spend so much time in the process. Especially if there is an advocacy group that wants to save the world's only remaining insect or plant species. Then, they have to draft the report outlining all of the objections and what steps were taken to ameliorate those objections; and the potential impact on the environment. An attorney can't even quote a price, because s/he doesn't know how much of his/her time wil be needed.

"Environmental lawyer" is too broad a term. you'd need to find a job description that fits what you're looking to do. I would think this is a government position, so I'd start looking at state or federal websites. Here's a link to Texas' job bank for state jobs which should give you an idea...it looks like state law jobs pay about 60k.

It really depends on what side you are on. If you are working for the industries (ie- Georgia Pacific has lots of environmental lawyers in their organization), then you can make a lot of money (over $100,000). If you are working to protect the environment with a nonprofit, you make around $30,000-$40,000. If you are working for the EPA or the DNR or anywhere else in the government, then you make around $50,000-$60,000.
