How long is your extension cord? Seriously, it will give off heat (assuming it's powered). Heat radiation is just infrared (same as visible light, but longer frequency). Yes, you would fee the heat from it if you held it in front of you.

stevewbcanada has it right. The vacuum of space will not cause the lamp to explode. It will, however run hotter than on earth because of a lack of air to carry away heat by convection, so it won't last as long.

Simulate what the Sun does. The same as on Earth. In theory, because I think light is constant in all atmospheres.
