Yes. Anybody who says no is kidding themselves. We are the world leaders in almost everything. The only thing the rest of the world makes that we don't is ignorant terrorists who bomb old ladies and kids. America rules.

No. We are a democratic country, we don't just say which nation is the greatest and we make it the greatest. We need people to vote for it, not only American, but all the people in the world. China or India will win. America will not even come close.
America does have the greatest wealth, but not in other areas. The greatest nation is one who is respected by all other nations, one who treat other nation fairly without discrimination on race, sex, or religion. America does not have the respect from most nations. America is one of the nation having the highest number of discrimination. Therefore, America cannot be the greatest nation.
What it takes to be a great leader is not only wealth. If we only look at money factor, then the greatest person will be Bill Gate. Buffet Warren who donated $40 billions is nothing. He is only left with $2 billion dollars or somewhere around it, so he is not great at all. A person who saves every penny, do no good, and have the most money cannot be categorized as great.
America did alot of good in the past, but it is not only doing it for other people, some of it is for its own greed. A great leader will not have done that. You need to reconsider your choice and meaning of greatest.

The US of A, is in my opinion the most powerful nation on earth. It's US Controlled, multi-national companies rape and pillage the resources of most 'third world' countries. Yes, European countries have been doing the same, but what they do is nothing compared to the damage that the US of A does. The US of A keeps millions of people throughout the world in conditions that amount to nothing more than slavery, to keep bananas, Uranium ores, copper ores, wheat, iron ores, coffee, tea, gas and oil (not to mention all the other things) coming into it's boundaries. Not satisfied with removing the natural resources of these countries it also maintains a brain drain from these countries, importing their best nurses, doctors, teachers, IT personnel and scientists, yet giving these countries nothing in return. It is no wonder that the US of A is trying to control immigration. With so few of it's own children growing up to master mathematics, science and medicine, it has to entice those who have learned of these things, (often sponsored and educated by very poor third world country governments), into the US of A, robbing the poor of not only the hope of learning and medicine in those places, but also the monies required to educate these individuals originally.
Is it any wonder just about the whole world hates the US of A? If the Greatest country means the one that rips off the rest of the world, causes more pollution than just about all of the rest of the world? Then yes, it is. If it doesn't mean these things, then no, it isn't.

Definately not.
Answering your question would depend entirely on your definition of 'greatest', which would be very difficult to define in this context.
Also, the statement that the USA is the greatest nation sounds like propaganda from the USA.
Note how only Americans, that is people from the USA, have replied with a 'yes' to this question.

USA where they speak English??
As well as the stupid laws and c**p that are made in different states, and as for the American dream, how many people are not living that!!
Yes there are good points about the USA they make good films etc and the weather tends to be good, but lets be honest, its unfair to say that they're the best, ever country has its strong points and its weak points...
But then saying that, George Bush is a big minus!!

Probably not It is one of the greatest Superpowers on Earth and certainly a lot of people would put it at the top of their wish list to emigrate to but a lot of other nations would have claims Japan and the Uk could both claim that for their size and population their acheivements give them a shot at the top spot

absolutely, categorically not, and the only people who think it is the greatest country in the world, are the egotistic americans themselves, whilst the rest of us in the world find much amusement in the way that they actually do believe they are the best country in the world, the very idea that you could judge a nation as being "better" or "superior" than any other is the exact reason most tasteful people find disgust and contempt in the average american's supremacist attitude.

By what criteria - wealth, probably yes......right now I'm struggling.
Really not sure its helpful thinking of league tables here. My perception of Americans is that the majority would zealously answer yes to your question, in a way which is rather nauseating to non-americans - excessive patriotism is nearly always unhealthy as it inevitably engenders an air of superiority over other nations and a divisive mindset.

1. Surely one George Bush is enough for anyone.
2. Baseball World series, how many countries compete.
3. Missile so accurate, they can hit the middle of a big red cross on a roof from 20000 feet.
Need i go on?
